TAMPA - An 11-month-old girl weighed 10 pounds, 6 ounces – about half what she should have – several months ago when removed from the care of two people, investigators say.

Hillsborough County deputies arrested Aurora Rising, 23, and Michael Rising, 24, on Tuesday night. Deputies say the Risings were caring for the girl from April 1 through May 7.

"The child should have weighed at least 22 pounds," sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.

The child is doing well and is in state custody, Carter said.

Aurora Rising and Michael Rising, both of 15501 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., were charged with child neglect. Bail for each was set at $2,000 each. Both have been released.

A little more than a month in their care and child has lost 1/2 of their average body weight? How did they end out with the child in their "care"?

Again, the age old question looms--where the fuck was/is Mom? Sounds like some serious starvation went on while the baby was held in the bowels of hell.

How damn hard is it to feed a baby. In fact it is a pleasure to feed them. Bah!

This is a weird one- is it even possible for a little one to lose so much weight in one month?
Or was the baby neglected before she came to be with these people? Are they being blamed for the previous caretaker's (the mom's?) neglect? Curious about this one- we'll have to check for updates on this story.

I actually don't like feeding babies -- as in sitting in front of a high chair with a bowl of cereal or mashed peas. I get a little stir-crazy. But never, ever did I make the kids suffer for it and think, "Ah, fuck it. I'm just not going to feed him/her."

The thing I find ironic is that so many parents and/or caregivers neglect or abuse children because they can't stand the crying. How hard is it to figure out that if you feed them regularly they are less likely to be fussy?

Awwwww....I enjoy feeding the babies. I like to play "airplane" with the spoon and baby talk to my kid. "Ba ba ba, here's airplane comin'....comin' to land on your tongue...." Of course, it annoyed my husband :biggrin1:

... damn, my baby must be underfed and neglected. She barely broke 19lbs... and that is at 12 months 3 weeks.
