Jay John Barboni - booking photo and in his lovely orange suit......15-month-old Nick Taylor
When Jay John Barboni picked up his girlfriends son from a baby sitters house the boy was healthy.
About three hours later, the child was dead.
On Thursday, Fulton police charged Barboni, 30, with second degree murder in the death of 15-month-old Nick Taylor.
A number of people, including the child's baby sitter, saw Nick at 4:30 p.m. Monday and said he looked and acted fine. The sitter said that Nick was laughing and playing and healthy and fine and that there was nothing wrong with him when Barboni picked him up.
Barboni called Nick's mom, Dawn Taylor, at work that evening to say her son wasn't breathing.
"I went right to my apartment and found Nick not breathing. He was blue. He had a good amount of bruises on him, all over," she said. "I was bawling. Jay disappeared. I don't know where he went. He went outside somewhere. I was trying to find a pulse, but I couldnt find one."
The medical examiner's report paints a horrific image of the final moments of little Nick's life.
The report describes the injuries that led to the death as severe head trauma with a depressed fracture on the right side of the head, massive scalp hemorrhage and damage to the brain. The child was struck in the head at least five times. His extensive injuries included abrasions and contusions, predominantly on the head.
Curious. What the medical examiner's statement to police did not explain was why the child was taken to a doctor 18 times and had seven hospital stays between May 2007 and August 2008.
Taylor had dated Barboni for the last three months. He is not the boy's father and she says he had not hurt Taylor, Nick, or Nick's 9-year-old sister in the past.
Shannon Provost is the mother of Barboni's two children and has an order of protection against him. He had a temper, Provost said but she couldn't believe Barboni would harm a child. Yeah, right - and pigs fly
Barboni remains in the Oswego County jail without bail.

While it is interesting that the baby had been medically treated many times, I doubt he had some spontaneous bruising and magical skull fracturing syndrome that causes death in hours.
It's getting so you have to see a guys full resume, relationship background, criminal record and psyche workup to date when your a single mom. Even then there are no guarantees.

I think in this day and age, I just wouldn't date until my kids were grown and gone.

Happy little spagetti face... poor little guy.
I could care less what that nut sack was "on" to do this to a little child.
Let him rot for the rest of his life or have someone shove a shank through his eye.
Either way, get rid of him.

I just can't believe how quickly these women let an almost complete stranger into their lives and the lives of their children. Just because you are putting out to someone on a regular basis, you still really have no idea how they are going to interact with kiddos.
When (if), I'm dating someone, they don't even know where I live for at least 4 to 6 months (if they last that long ;)). I think, since my divorce 12 years ago, my children have met 2 of my boyfriends. And still, there never came a time when I felt the need to leave my children alone with them.

If I was watching someone else's kid, and they stopped breathing, my first call would not be to their mom. And while I'm sorry for this poor mother's loss, if someone called me and said my kid wasn't breathing, I wouldn't drive home and look for a pulse, I would be too busy screaming into the phone "Why are you calling me and not an ambulance, you dumb fuck?!?!?"
Why didn't mom call an ambulance as soon as she found out her kid wasn't breathing?!?

I couldn't agree more, and I wish more people thought this way. Think of how many little children would be saved if the majority of the female population felt this way.

That may be so, but I don't understand why anyone would leave their child with someone they've only dated 3 MONTHS! That's just plain crazy. It's unfortunate that people who are too trusting usually end up learning the hard way that you can't trust strangers with your babies.

Maybe some women don't really want sex partners, they want cheap babysitters. :noidea:

I think that's exactly it. Any woman can pretty much go into any random bar and find some guy who is willing to slip her the salami. Heck, a gal might even be able to earn a little money while she's at it. An affordable and reliable babysitter, now...those are hard to find.
I'd be interested to know if the rates of "random short-term boyfriend kills baby" cases have increased since welfare reform started imposing time limits and requiring recipients to get a job, any job. As much as welfare reform might be needed, one of its downfalls is that it rarely provides childcare. So a lot of single moms are left in the position of losing low-paying job after low-paying job because they get fired for missing work due to lack of childcare. Or they leave the child home alone out of desperation and get in trouble for that. Or they leave the child with someone they barely know out of desperation, and tragedy ensues. Of course, it would be best if nobody ever had a child that they couldn't care for, but that doesn't always happen. And to be honest, probably a lot of people who are caught in the generational welfare/poverty cycle come from dysfunctional families where leaving the kids with grandma, or an extended family member, is not really a good or safe option, either.
That's one reason why single moms can be easy prey, I think--it's too tempting to believe that some guy is going to help with the bills and the child care, and make life easier for you and the kid. Of course, the knight on the shining white horse doesn't exist, and there just aren't that many good guys who are honestly looking to take on the financial and child care burden of kids that aren't his. Especially when a lot of guys don't even stick around to take care of their own kids, let alone the new girlfriend's children.
I remember seeing an episode of a talk show (Jenny Jones, maybe?) about men who wouldn't date single mothers because they (the men) didn't feel like they were ready to be father figures or have anything to do with child care, figuring that when they were ready, they'd settle down and have kids of their own. And man, how the women on stage, and in the audience, ripped those guys a new one! All the comments were along the lines of, "You better love my kid," and "I don't need any man to be a father to my kid--I'm his mother AND his father!" and "What kind of horrible man doesn't want to meet my kids?" And I was thinking, "Kudos to these guys for knowing what they're ready to handle and what they're not ready to handle." I think it takes a pretty mature attitude to realize that if someone has a child, everything you do, and every person you let into your life (whether they meet the child or not) is going to have an impact on that child's life...and it can mean more harm than good if everyone involved isn't ready for that, so sometimes it's better to just not get involved in the first place.

rent a dildo is just disgusting :puke: even if they sterilize the things between customers its hard for me to think anyone would want to rent sex toys. I buy all of mine and stick them in a lock box under the bed.

It took jurors a little more than five hours of deliberation Tuesday afternoon in a secluded room outside the Oswego County courtroom to find Jay John Barboni guilty of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.
Barboni, 31, formerly of Liverpool, was found guilty of the top two counts of his indictment, and could face up to life in prison for the murder of 15-month-old Nicholas Taylor last August.
