CHICAGO (CBS) ― A 28-year-old South Side man has been charged with attempted murder in the attack of an elderly landlord who was doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire.
Donald Hardy is expected to appear in bond court Saturday for the early morning attack on 77-year-old Harlan Hayes.
Hayes was burned over more than 90 percent of his body early Tuesday morning after Hardy allegedly knocked on Hayes's door, threw gasoline on him and lit him on fire. Stoval said her father was able to tell police who attacked him.
She said the suspect is one of Hayes' former tenants, apparently upset because his family had been evicted from the building at 63rd Street and Ellis Avenue and because Hayes dismissed the suspect's mom as a caregiver for his disabled sister.
