PHOENIXVILLE — A Phoenixville man was arrested Tuesday night on multiple counts of invasion of privacy after police confiscated four video cameras and 33 videotapes that he allegedly filmed spying on his girlfriend's daughter.

Lawrence Eugene Hudy, 59, of South Mallard Circle, Phoenixville, is charged with 33 counts of invasion of privacy and harassment after police executed a search warrant at his residence Tuesday evening.

Upon arrival, police were notified by the complainant, whose name is being withheld by The Phoenix, that she believed her mother's boyfriend was video recording her in various states of nudity without her knowledge or permission.

The complainant told police that around 8 p.m. August 18, she attempted to record a television program on a VCR located in the family room.

She said that when she went to use the VCR, she was unable to record anything. After ejecting the VHS tape, she took the tape to another VCR in the home office on the first floor.

"She pressed record and walked away from the VCR for approximately 30 minutes," said Frost. "When she returned to the VCR, she rewound the tape and pressed play. She observed a video recording of her bedroom. She was not aware of the presence of a video recorder in her bedroom."

"She said she watched a short portion of the tape, and then hid the tape in her bedroom," said Frost. "While in her bedroom, she discovered what she believed to be a hidden video camera in an air conditioner duct on the bedroom wall that faces her bed."

Tuesday morning, the complainant used a screwdriver to remove the vent grate on the air conditioner duct on the bedroom wall that faces her bed, and found a small video camera.

The complainant's boyfriend told police he found a videotape in the office, and upon playing it, observed the daughter using a toilet in the second floor hall bathroom.

"He went to the bathroom and discovered one of the electrical outlets had a different wall plate than the others," said Frost. "He removed the wall plate and found a wire that was very similar to the one attached to the video camera in the victim's bedroom. He discovered hidden video cameras above a shower in the second floor bathroom and above the bathtub in the master bedroom."

Police executed a search warrant on the residence Tuesday evening when Hudy arrived on the scene.

"He stated he installed the video cameras in the house," said Frost. "He agreed to go to the Phoenixville Police Station."

After being read his Miranda warnings, Hudy told police he videotaped the complainant while she was partially and fully nude without her knowledge or permission. He also told police he kept videotapes of her in his office and basement.

During the execution of the search warrant, police recovered 33 videotapes along with four video cameras — three were located in bathroom and one in the complainant's bedroom.

Hudy was transported to the Phoenixville District Court Tuesday night, where he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Ted Michaels.

He was released after Michaels set his bail at $250,000 unsecured bail, with the provisions of no contact whatsoever with the victims and weekly check-ins with the Chester County Bail Agency.
