I hope this works. I've never tried this part of the forum before. But I love these two little videos.

Two cats discuss something at length.

While I was listening to Two Cats Talking, one of my kittens came running over and kept rubbing his head against the computer speakers. :rofl2:

 Actually, I'm afraid of turning into a "weird cat lady"... I already have 2 out of the 3 requirements.

It is really fun to play this while your cats are around. I just listened to it again and my black-and-white woke up and looked around and my gray-fur stared at the screen with a horrified expression as if he thought the cats might be real.:):

OMG. That was EXCELLENT. First of all, the cats "chatting" in cat language alone was great. I think the translation was probably accurate, too! My son always says, "I wish our pets could talk!"

Just my luck sucks

If cats could talk---they would lie to you.:spy:

Dogs on the otherhand, would tell the truth.

"yep, yep, I put da mud on da floor, yep, yep luv me, luver me":biggrin1:

Ha, my cats freaked out too when they heard me playing this! My new ragdoll kitten stopped doing front flips long enough to come eye the computer suspiciously. He kept looking back and forth from the computer to me. My older cat had this look like, there better not be even MORE new kitties in this house you bitch!

Well since it's Friday, I thought while I was drinking a few beers I'd play this for my cat.

Never have I come so close to having beer spew out through my nose!
"Little Miss Indignant" wanted to know what was going on in HER house.
I played it around 7 times before she stopped reacting to it.

It was pay back for the dead mouse she brought into the house and hid.
(I located it via nose and not sight)

I am not real good with cat speak even after having had them for decades. They are so different from us in the way that they express things.

I think the cat on the left is feeling insecure and wants contact. The other keeps mirroring its meow. That little "whrrrr" is friendly and inviting, a sort of attachment sound. The "youp!" at the end is some sort of emphasis. So the one on the left expresses his feelings and the one of the right is reassuring by mirroring his call. You can hear them doing it over and over.

I have "whrrr'ed" to strange cats and they go nuts looking for the "other cat" -- behind me, around my feet. They know it's not a person sound. I also like to purr to cats and see them start in surprise -- she can purr!

Cats are supposed to make 27 sounds and combine them in all different ways. I have never found a sound list of them. I sure wish I could.

I don't know for sure why the one on the right offers itself for grooming, but it might be that making itself that vulnerable is reassuring somehow to the other.

People always talk about cats and dominance and submission, but I think such independent creatures are more about engagement and disengagement. Cats who choose not to fight seem to me to disengage from the situation. In this case, the "groomee" engages with the needy cat by allowing this intimate action.

Hope this little treatise isn't a bore. It's just my best guess as to what is going on.
