LYNN (WBZ) ― Police are looking for a young boy, who has been missing since Friday.

Giovanni Gonzalez, 5, was last seen in the area of 2 Brightwood Terrace around 4 p.m. on Aug. 15.

According to police, a missing persons report was filed by Giovanni's mother, Daisy Colon, of East Boston on Sunday. She told police she dropped her son off to his father, Ernesto Gonzalez, 36, at his Brightwood Terrace apartment in Lynn Friday afternoon.

When she went to pick her son up, no one was answered the door. Colon then called police who entered the home and found the Gonzalez alone in the apartment.

Gonzalez was arrested on Monday and charged with child endangerment in connection with Giovanni's disappearance. He was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail.

According to police, despite Ernesto's arrest, Giovanni's whereabouts remain unknown.

Giovanni weighs approximately 40 pounds and is 4 feet 1 inch tall with black hair and brown eyes.

When last seen, he was wearing blue denim jeans, a red T-shirt, a silver braided chain and black Spiderman sandals. He was carrying a black backpack that had the Transformers robot characters on it and which contained some of his clothes and toys. He has a faded skin pigmentation mark on the lower right side of his chest and a small scar above his eyebrow.

Anyone with information about this little boy is asked to call Lynn police at 781.595.2000.

Wish we had a little more info on this one. What does the father have to say?
I hope this isn't part of the current trend where the parent hurts the child to get back at the ex. Seems like there's been a lot of that lately...

I was just watching details on the evening news. Mom dropped kid off with estranged dad on Friday afternoon. When she went to pick him up on Sunday, the Dad denied he'd ever had the child! Other people saw him with the boy, though, so it's confirmed he had him. They haven't released the time line on that yet.

They arrested the father, who is REFUSING TO TELL THE POLICE ANYTHING. Does this sound familiar? You think Caseybitch is teaching people if they keep their mouth shut they might get away with murder?? Apparently, dad has a fresh cut on his hand, but won't divulge anything about where it came from.

I hope this boy is fine, but my heart tells me he's not. :(

More details are emerging....slowly.

Neighbors saw a boy who "might" have been Gonzalez in the father's apartment around 8 PM Saturday. The mom arrived at 4 PM on Sunday to collect him. So the disappearance is between Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 4 PM. This article also states that the father has some ties to family in Puerto Rico, and there is an off chance he somehow sent the boy there, though the police don't seem to think it's very likely.

http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2008/08/lynn_boy_5_stil.html

The father is now refusing to speak to the police directly at all.

Does any of this sound woefully familiar? Right down to the Puerto Rico connection? All we're missing is a mysterious nanny...

The mother of a missing 5-year-old Lynn boy said today she’s searching for her child and vowed to never stop looking.

"The only thing I want to say, Giovanni, is I miss you and love you so much. I’m looking for you ... Don’t believe anything else," Daisy Colon of East Boston told the Herald today.

State Police tell the Herald a dumpster was hauled away from Lynn near the missing boy’s father’s home today.

Giovanni weighs approximately 40 pounds, stands about 4 feet tall and has black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing blue denim jeans, a red T-shirt, a silver braided chain and black Spiderman sandals.

He was also carrying a black Transformers backpack that contained clothes and toys. Police said he has a faded skin pigmentation mark on the lower right side of his chest and a small scar above his left eyebrow. He also has a slight birthmark on his left inner ankle.

FBI joins search for Lynn's Giovanni Gonzalez

(NECN) - The search has intensified for a 5-year-old boy who disappeared while allegedly visiting his father in Lynn, Massachusetts

The FBI has now been called in to help look for Giovanni Gonzalez and state police are using helicopters to scour the city for clues.

According to the Lynn Daily Item, the district attorney has confirmed neighbors' suspicions that Giovanni was with his father Saturday afternoon before his mother reported him missing on Sunday.

Ernesto Gonzalez is being held on a child endangerment charge, but so far he is refusing to cooperate with police.

Again, if you have seen Giovanni -- or know anything about his whereabouts, you are asked to call Lynn Police at 781-595-2000.

Cops continue hunt for missing Lynn boy

By Thor Jourgensen and Dan O'Brien / The Daily Item

LYNN - He won't discuss his missing son's whereabouts with police, but detectives are interested in Ernesto L. Gonzalez, Jr.'s public library computer use as they continue searching for 5-year-old Giovanni Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, 36, used library computers and looked at books in the children's room on several occasions over the last year, according to library workers.

Theresa Hurley and her coworkers recognized the Brightwood Terrace resident as soon as they saw a flyer seeking the public's assistance in finding Gonzalez' son.

"He was a quiet, well behaved patron," Chief Library Nadine Michell said, adding, "The boy was never seen here."

Mitchell said a Lynn police detective asked library employees about Gonzalez' reading and computer habits Tuesday morning. As of Tuesday afternoon, police had not applied for a search warrant in District Court to access additional information about Gonzalez.

She said the library's ability to provide detailed information on books Gonzalez checked out or information he was viewing online may be limited. She said checkout records for library material are erased as soon as the book, compact disc or video is returned. The library uses an anti-virus software called Centurion Guard that erases library computer memories.

"Once the computer is shut down, that memory is gone. It's like a needle in a haystack searching it," Mitchell said.

Mitchell thinks Gonzalez's trips to the children's room were aimed at improving his English reading skills. Recent police reports listed Gonzalez as a Puerto Rican native employed at Old Neighborhood Foods as a machine operator.

He is being held in the Essex County House of Corrections in Middleton, charged with child endangerment. Police and the boy's mother said Gonzalez took his son for a custody visit last Friday.

When Daisy Colon came to Gonzalez' apartment to retrieve their son, the boy was not there and Gonzalez denied having seen him over the weekend. Neighbors told police they saw father and son outside the apartment building Saturday afternoon.

Police hauled away a commercial-size Dumpster from in front of 2 Brightwood Terrace Wednesday and searched several parts of the city as the hunt for Giovanni continued.

State Police helicopters circled High Rock Park midday and flew over Pine Grove Cemetery. Dirt paths cut through the thick underbrush and trees growing on the park's slopes. High Rock borders a stretch of Essex Street three blocks from Brightwood Terrace.

Searchers also probed earlier in the day around the heights of St. Mary's Cemetery.

By early evening, police had mobilized a grid search in the downtown area.

Lynn police Lt. William Sharpe said representatives from the Lawrence Police drug unit had volunteered to join the search for Giovanni Wednesday night.

Giovanni Gonzalez is described as a Hispanic male, weighs 40 pounds, is about 4-foot-2 and has a slight birthmark on his inner left ankle. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a red shirt and "Spiderman" sandals. He was also holding a black "Transformers" backpack.

OMG, read this piece. The dad sounds like SUCH a jerk:

Search for missing Lynn boy now includes FBI, aircraft

By Thor Jourgensen and Jill Gadsby / The Daily Item

LYNN - District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett has confirmed neighbor's suspicions that missing 5-year-old Giovanni Gonzalez was with his father Ernesto Gonzalez before he was reported missing Sunday night.

"Everything tells us that the father and the son were together late Saturday afternoon," he said.

Ernesto Gonzalez is being held on $500,000 cash bail for allegedly endangering his son, who was last seen Saturday.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, State Police detective Elaine Gill said the FBI has now joined in the search for the missing boy.

Police interviews with neighbors described Ernesto Gonzalez, 36, of 2 Brightwood Terrace #2, as someone who "always seemed mad" and "seemed like a real jerk" in terms of his behavior with his 5-year-old son, Giovanni Gonzalez.

Brightwood Terrace resident Jason Fallis told police he saw Ernesto Gonzalez with a young boy on Saturday just after noontime. He said the pair were playing with a ball outside and when the boy kicked the ball down the street, Fallis said Ernesto Gonzalez cursed at the boy in Spanish. "He seemed like a real jerk," Fallis is quoted as saying to police.

Fallis also said Ernesto Gonzalez always seemed mad to him whenever he saw him outside with his son.

Another neighbor, Mary Laing, described Ernesto Gonzalez as "very quiet."

She told police that she heard a child laughing inside Ernesto Gonzalez's apartment Saturday night and also heard the sound of a television. When asked by police if she was certain she heard the sound of a child, she said, "I know what a child sounds like."
Lynn and state police continue to search for Giovanni Gonzalez and plan to step up that search Wednesday with the help of a state police air wing, which will fly over the city using infared equipment in an attempt to locate the boy, Blodgett said.

"We are actively searching for the whereabouts of the young boy," Blodgett said. "We did retrieve some items from searches and we have been conducting a door-to-door canvas with Lynn police and state police. In addition, flyers had been made up with pictures of the boy and the father and they were printed in both English and Spanish."

Giovanni Gonzalez's mother, Daisy Colon, 33, of East Boston, called police after Ernesto Gonzalez said the boy wasn't with him when she went to retrieve him Sunday from a scheduled visitation.

When police interviewed Colon Sunday evening, she told them that she and Ernesto Gonzalez had a Sept. 15 court appearance to iron out custody and visitation rights. She also said Ernesto Gonzalez had visits with Giovanni for the previous two weekends and everything went fine.

"Ernesto has been out of Giovanni's life, now he wants to be part of it," Colon told police.

Police said Colon told them that if Ernesto Gonzalez "messes this up" that she would make sure that he would not be able to see Giovanni again.

Suffolk County Probate and Family Court records show Gonzalez agreed in April 2006 to pay Colon $125 a week in child support after the state Department of Revenue moved on Colon's behalf to bring him to trial for child support enforcement.

The payment was outlined in a support order issued by Probate Court, in which Colon agreed to maintain health insurance for her son.

In June 2008, Gonzalez filed a complaint for custody visitation in Suffolk Probate seeking joint legal custody of Giovanni with Colon. In stating his reason for filing the complaint, he wrote: "Because I am the father of the child."

After tireless efforts to get Ernesto Gonzalez to tell police what happened Sunday night, Lynn and state police issued an "Endangered Child Advisory" late Monday afternoon.

State Police homicide detectives searched Ernesto Gonzalez's apartment building Monday night, while nearly 30 units from Lynn and State Police searched the woods near High Rock Tower.

Concern for the boy continues to mount in light of the fact that Ernesto Gonzalez refused to tell police how he suffered a noticeable laceration to his left finger and he has a previous conviction of assault and battery with a knife.

Lynn District Court records indicate Ernesto Gonzalez received a six month suspended sentence and probation stemming from 2001 charges involving multiple assaults.

On Aug. 4, 2001 police were summonsed to 444 Chatham St. where witnesses said they saw Gonzalez slice the tires of a minivan and then chase Michael Carreiro into the street.

Police officers Jennifer Cash and Stephen Pohle confronted Gonzalez as he wielded a folding knife. They told him four or five times to drop the knife as they aimed their weapons at him. He complied and Pohle sprayed him twice with pepper spray before wrestling him to the ground.

At the time, the police report filed indicated Gonzalez was born in Puerto Rico and working as a machine operator at Old Neighborhood Foods.

Gonzalez' court record dates back to juvenile offenses in 1986 and 1987 when he was charged with cruelty to animals. The charge was subsequently dismissed and the case closed.

Anyone with any information about Gonzalez should call Lynn police at 781-595-2000.

LYNN, Mass. -- A search warrant returned today indicated a bloody mop was found inside Ernesto Gonzalez' Brightwood Terrace apartment, according to the Lynn Daily item. State police investigators conducted searches Monday after Gonzalez' 5-year-old son Giovanni disappeared last weekend.

Blood also was found on the cover of a bottle of pine cleaner, according to the warrant.

Police returned to the apartment and conducted a search Wednesday to find out the source of the blood and whom it came from.

They used road blocks over the weekend to search for witnesses. Now they are using cadaver dogs on a local cemetery.

Lynn and State Police have brought in cadaver-sniffing dogs as they continue their search for a missing 5-year-old boy.

A spokesman for the Essex district attorney's office said that the use of dogs to search Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn is not based on any new information, but that officials wanted to cover all bases as they look for the boy.

LOL. DV they are also using a helicopter.

Police are taking their search for a missing Lynn boy to the skies.

Investigators told WBZ's Karen Anderson they are using a helicopter to search St. Mary's Cemetery and the surrounding woods in Lynn hoping to find any trace of 5-year-old Giovanni Gonzalez.

There were no tips that prompted them to search that area, police said. They are simply searching as many places as possible.

Giovanni's mother, Daisy Colon, is asking the public for help in her desperate search for her son.

"My plea is for whoever has any information as small as you think, even if you think it's something that's nonsense, please come, because it could be a big thing for us to resolve this as soon as possible, so please come forward," she told reporters Wednesday.

"Whoever has my son, please, I'm begging you to let him go," Colon said before entering the Lynn Police Station.

"I'm going to be in the area, or just bring him to the police station or just tell him how to do it, and he'll be able to get there, because he is a very intelligent boy… Please let him go."

Prosecutors say Giovanni was dropped off at the Lynn home of his father, Ernesto Gonzalez, on Friday. When Colon went to pick him up on Sunday, the father said their son wasn't with him.

Police say Gonzalez, 36, has been uncooperative and charged him with child endangerment. He pleaded not guilty Monday and is being held on $500,000 bail.

Investigators are concerned for the boy's safety because the father has refused to explain how he suffered a cut on his hand.

"I don't understand why, how you could do something like that and not talk and not say anything," Colon said Wednesday, referring to the boy's father.

Police released a new photograph of Giovanni and Ernesto Gonzalez late Tuesday afternoon.

They hope someone will remember seeing them together between Aug. 15 and Sunday evening, Aug. 18.

Court documents obtained by WBZ indicate that Gonzalez has faced assault and battery charges in the past. He has been arrested three times - most recently in 2001, when he allegedly beat his girlfriend and then pulled a knife on police.

According to Colon, Gonzalez wanted nothing to do with his son until recently.

Giovanni is 4-feet-1 and weighs 40 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing jeans, a red shirt and "Spider Man" sandals. He was carrying a "Transformers" backpack.

He has a faded skin pigmentation mark on the lower right side of his chest and a small scar above his eyebrow.

Giovanni Gonzalez' picture will be put up on a Clear Channel's billboards in Lynn's Wyoma Square next week.

Giovanni has been missing since Aug. 16 when his mother went to pick him up from a weekend visit with his father, Ernesto Gonzalez.

Yes, LE said they had preliminary results back, but aren't releasing them. The thing that struck me as odd (see upthread) is that they said that on the same day that they reasserted their belief that Giovanni was still alive. So it made me think it probably wasn't Giovanni's blood on those items. That's sheer speculation on my part, of course.

I googled the case online. On August 30th, 2008, America's Most Wanted did a profile of this case on TV. Bt I do not see any positive results here. OMG, it's so awful.

The Essex County DA is not only saying they have no evidence Giovanni is dead, but is actually saying he believes he's alive. That's pretty strong to me, a month after the disappearance. I think they're holding a lot of information close to the vest on this.

But if the father didn't hurt the boy, but rather abducted him to get him away from / punish the mother, who did he figure would care for the child when he's in prison for the next X years? I don't get it. This man has no close family or friends by all reports.

I know LE has a lot more information at their disposal than I do, but I still have a feeling Giovanni is gone. I desperately hope that I'm wrong, and they're right.

Here's the latest from the Boston Globe:

Police broaden search for Lynn boy
Essex DA thinks 5-year-old is alive
By John R. Ellement
Globe Staff / September 11, 2008
Email| Print| Single Page| Yahoo! Buzz| ShareThisText size – + Investigators searching for a 5-year-old boy who disappeared last month while visiting his father in Lynn are expanding their search to include other North Shore coastal areas, according to the official leading the effort.

Jonathan Blodgett, the Essex district attorney, also said in a phone interview yesterday that State Police and Lynn police continue to explore the possibility that someone might have assisted the father in the child's disappearance - but have so far found no evidence to support that theory.

"We have no information or evidence to date that there was an accomplice, but we are exploring that possibility only given the fact that the father had no visible means of transportation, save a bicycle," Blodgett said.

Police and prosecutors have been searching for Giovanni Gonzalez, who was last seen Aug. 16 playing with his father, Ernesto Gonzalez, near the elder Gonzalez's Brightwood Terrace apartment in downtown Lynn.

The child had been brought to Lynn for a weekend visit by his mother, Daisy Colon, who lives in East Boston. But Ernesto Gonzalez, who is currently being held on $500,000 cash bail in the Essex County jail on a child endangerment charge, said Giovanni was never with him, according to court records. He has refused to talk further with investigators.

In a phone interview yesterday, Colon said she is frustrated she has not spoken with her son in 23 days. But, she said, authorities have been persistent in their search, and she is optimistic there will be a positive outcome.

"I know in my heart, he is still out there. He's alive," Colon said.

Colon said that she now wishes she had been trained as a private investigator and not in business accounting, as she was years ago.

"It gets frustrating for me, and sometimes I wish I could do more," she said, adding that she believes it is best to let law enforcement lead the search for her son.

A Lynn police spokesman, Lieutenant William Sharpe, said his department remains committed to finding Giovanni.

In a separate phone interview, Blodgett said he is convinced the boy is alive. He said investigators initially focused their investigation on areas that Gonzalez and his son could reach on foot or by mass transit because the father does not own a car.

He said investigators, including divers, have searched Flax Pond multiple times because it is close to the father's apartment. In the coming days, a State Police search team will probably scour some other North Shore coastal areas, possibly on jet skis, to make sure the boy is not there.

"We've expanded the actual search area beyond a reasonable walking distance," Blodgett said. "We have nothing to date that indicates that he is not alive."

Anyone with information is asked to call Lynn police at 781-595-2000 or the State Police unit in Blodgett's office at 978-745-8908.

Still no news or stories about this boy.....hmmmmm. Pisses me off.
Also, why is it when tragedy strikes, you hear why or how "could God do this..." then when you give a logical or plausible explanation of who did it (ie. the parent, babysitter, boyfriend, etc....) all you hear is "no way, they wouldn't hurt a baby fly" bullshit response.
Let me tell you, if my child was missing, everyone would be a fucking suspect! These "parents" are so full of fucking shit because deep down I believe they had signs, known the history of, had all the warnings, and always have known, that it was not the safest bet to leave their child with the person(s) in question. Most of these incidents that we read about could of been prevented from the beginning. And when I say beginning, lets go back to the real beginning like even sleeping with a guy who you knew was a piece of shit with a shit load of questionable baggage!!!!!

Ok, here is the first article I've seen that does specify that the blood they found in Ernesto's apartment did NOT come from Giovanni. That's what I suspected, since they kept saying they believed he's alive, but this is the first confirmation I've seen. Heartbreaking read...

Even when it comes, sleep brings no relief to Daisy Colon.

"Last night I dreamed somebody tied me to the bed, and I couldn't get free," she says. "The time was flying. The sun was going up and down, up and down, up and down. I was trying to call my mom, but all I could make was this noise."

She is helpless during her waking hours, too.

Five weeks ago today, Colon went to pick up her son Giovanni Gonzalez after a weekend at his father Ernesto's place in Lynn. They weren't there. She waited for them for hours, then called police. They found Ernesto, but there was no sign of Giovanni. The father denied having seen his son at all that weekend.

Desperate, incensed, Daisy confronted Ernesto at the police station. She demanded to know where her son was. Offered not to press charges. Begged him.

"You have him," he kept saying. "You have him."

And to this day, even after being charged with child endangerment and jailed on $500,000 bail, Ernesto has nothing more to say about the 5-year-old with the wide smile and the Spiderman obsession.

So Daisy Colon drags herself through the days, separated from her beloved child, frustrated, empty.

She forces herself to eat once a day. She chain-smokes Newports on her East Boston stoop. She hugs her daughter Angie, not yet 2, affecting cheeriness for her sake. She stays out of her son's room, where all of his toys are in a box in a corner because she can't bear to look at them.

She plays the same gospel song over and over in her car on the way to see the Essex County DA: "My soul magnifies the Lord. You're my strength. You're my shield." She closes her eyes at stoplights to take in the words. God has a reason for putting her through this, she says.

Every day, every couple of hours, she calls the DA and the Lynn police to ask if there's anything new.

There is nothing new.

Because Ernesto Gonzalez, sitting in his cell, says nothing.

"Do you think he might read this in prison?" Daisy asks. "If he's reading this, I want to say something that will catch his attention."

After 35 days, what could catch his attention?

She pauses, searching.

Finally, she settles on this: "You wanted to hurt me, and you did. It's killing me inside. But it's Giovanni's future, and he needs to show up soon. If you know where he is or if somebody has him, just put him somewhere public - a hospital, a post office, a police station, a mall - anywhere that he can say his name and where he lives."

Her heart tells her Giovanni is alive. Even when police found a blood-stained mop at Ernesto's place, Daisy refused to believe her son had been hurt. Investigators found that the blood was not Giovanni's.

"My mind has a lot of those thoughts, but my heart is straight on one thing," she says. "He's OK."

Still, he has missed out on the start of kindergarten at the Samuel Adams School. He must miss his precious Superman suit with the padded chest muscles. He must be asking questions.

As police follow a host of so-far fruitless leads, Ernesto seems ready to stay right where he is - saying nothing, waiting everybody out. He hasn't sought a bail reduction. He seems utterly disconnected, not even bothering to use all of his telephone privileges.

They can't hold him forever. He has a court date in November to answer the charges. Even if convicted, he faces a maximum of 2 1/2 years in a house of correction.

Maybe he's figuring 2 1/2 years isn't that long to endure, if it means getting away with whatever it is he may have done.

But every minute of Giovanni's life is precious. And for Daisy, every minute without him is torture.

The minutes pile up by the thousand, and the sun goes up and down, up and down.

I will continue to watch for updates on Giovanni, as well as the others, and keep them and their families in my thoughts.

Ernesto Gonzalez confesses to killing son

LYNN – Despite a published report stating Ernesto Gonzalez confessed to killing his 5-year-old son, Essex County law enforcement officials are skeptical the confession is true.

According to the report, Ernesto Gonzalez, 36, confessed to a reporter that he had stabbed his son, Giovanni, to death.

He told the reporter he dismembered his son’s body in the bathtub of his Brightwood Terrace apartment, then placed his body parts into plastic bags and disposed of them in three dumpsters around the city.

I'm a little torn. I do believe little Giovanni is dead, but in the manner in which he died is still unclear. The "father", is a cold, heartless bastard. I hope for misery and anguish for his remaining days.

I'm so sorry little one...I can't even begin to imagine how much terror you experienced your last moments alive...knowing you were being attached by your father must have destroyed your heart and your mind.

I am grateful that you knew real love...your mother misses you terribly, I'm sure every waking moment is of you and in her dreams she memorizes your sweet face over and over.

Sweet one be at peace with the angels...

The father of a missing 5-year-old Lynn boy was indicted this afternoon on charges of parental kidnapping and misleading authorities in an ongoing investigation of his son's disappearance.

He will be arraigned on the new charges tomorrow morning in Salem Superior Court.

During a jailhouse interview with a Globe reporter on Nov. 26, Gonzalez confessed to stabbing his son to death in his Lynn apartment, dismembering the body, and then discarding the remains in three trash bins around the city.

The extraordinary confession was met with skepticism by authorities, who have yet to find evidence in the apartment that would corroborate Gonzalez's account.

He worked as a MEAT PACKER and states that he killed Giovanni then CUT up his body in the bathtub. WHY are the authorities skeptical? He would certaily know HOW to cut up a body. A bathtub can be cleaned with bleach and it would be nearly impossible to find any evidence.
What are they doing?
If a parent DENIES killing a child and acts like they just don't care then, of COURSE they killed the child. They are followed to the ends of the earth to prove that they DID kill their child. This parent has ADMITTED to killing his child and they just, what? Sit back and doubt him? Are they even investigating this?

Globe Staff / November 28, 2008
Neighbors yesterday expressed shock that Ernesto L. Gonzalez Jr. had confessed to killing his 5-year-old son, Giovanni, during a weekend visit in August.

Discuss
COMMENTS (4)
"If he really killed that little kid, he should go to jail for the rest of his life," said Gilberto Fuentes, 30, who lives on Brightwood Terrace, where Gonzalez allegedly killed the boy in his apartment. "He's not here no more, so I guess it's safe."

Gonzalez, 36, a former meat packer, told a Globe reporter on Wednesday that he stabbed and dismembered his son while the child was visiting him, then dumped the remains in three trash bins around the city, about 10 miles north of Boston.

The disappearance of the boy set off a massive search from Lynn as far away as Florida and Puerto Rico. Authorities had called the case one of the most frustrating and disturbing they had seen. They had been stymied in their efforts to solve the mystery because they found no weap on and little physical evidence, and Gonzalez refused to cooperate with investigators. Gonzalez has been sitting in the Essex County jail, held on $500,000 cash bail and awaiting trial on child endangerment charges.

In the jailhouse interview, Gonzalez said he lost his temper after his son was "behaving badly" and did not respond to a scolding. The next thing he knew, he said, he was stabbing the boy with a red-handled kitchen knife. He said he dismembered his son's body in the bathtub and dumped his remains in trash bins in Lynn. He said he washed the knife and returned it to a kitchen drawer.

"It happened. I was upset. It happened in a moment," he told reporter Maria Sacchetti.

Steve O'Connell, a spokesman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, would not comment further on the case yesterday, except to say: "We will review the alleged statement of the defendant and determine whether it is truthful or not. The investigation remains ongoing."

He would not say how investigators will seek to corroborate or disprove the story, at least part of which seemed accurate. Yesterday, dumpsters could be found in two of the three locations he cited in the interviews - at the Big Lots discount store and behind the Eastern Bank on Union Street. There was no dumpster by the stone St. Stephen's Episcopal Church near Lynn Common. But a man parked nearby yesterday said several dumpsters were there during the summer.

Yesterday, no one answered the door at the East Boston home of the boy's mother, Daisy Colón.

Across the street, a group of young men outside Danny's Market, a Spanish-American grocery store, said they knew Colón but hadn't seen her in two days. "We used to see the kid, playing like an ordinary kid. One day he was gone," said one of the men.

In Lynn, neither Fuentes nor several other neighbors knew Gonzalez or his son.

Chris Tchorzynski, 55, was stunned that the killing may have taken place directly across the small plaza from his own house. "Oh my God," he said. "I don't know what would make someone do that to their own child."

If the crime occurred in the apartment, he said, there must be some physical proof.

"I don't see how he did it," he said. "If that's true, there's some evidence up there somewhere, in some crack, some crevice."

Records show that in 2001, Gonzalez was arrested by Lynn police after fighting with his then girlfriend, threatening her with a knife, vandalizing her car with a knife, threatening a neighbor with a knife, and then threatening police officers with a knife. In 2003, he was convicted on multiple assault and battery charges and was sentenced to three months in the Essex County House of Correction.

Though the confession could give investigators the break they have been looking for, they appeared skeptical about Gonzalez's statements. According to authorities, the physical evidence recovered at Gonzalez's apartment is inconsistent with his description of the crime. They had found a blood-stained mop and blood on the cap of a cleaning product, but determined the blood was not Giovanni's. Some evidence is still being tested, authorities said.

"Nothing in the investigation substantiates it," said one law enforcement official yesterday.

In an interview with the Globe the day before Gonzalez confessed, Colón said she has been waiting since Sunday, Aug. 17, the afternoon she pounded on his father's door in Lynn, to pick up her only son from the weekend visit. No one answered, and no one could find Giovanni.

Since that day, life has been an agonizing blur for her. She said she rarely sleeps, and suffers migraines.

"I wouldn't even wish it on my worst enemy," she said. "It's like I'm not full. I'm empty. A big part of me has been missing."

Mother still holds onto hope.

Daisy Colón, the mother of a missing 5-year-old boy whose father confessed to killing him, said today that she believes her son is still alive and appealed to potential witnesses for help.

Colón said there was no proof to back up Ernesto Gonzalez’s jailhouse confession on Nov. 26 to a Globe reporter in which he asserted that he had stabbed their son, Giovanni Gonzalez, to death, dismembered the body, and disposed of the remains in three different trash bins around Lynn.

“I want to still get it out there that I don’t believe anything that (Ernesto Gonzalez) said. I know my son is alive. I know he’s somewhere,” Colón, of East Boston, said by telephone.

This case is only getting weirder.

I fear the child is dead, but not in the way that the father is confessing to. They would have found little Giovanni's blood somewhere in the bathroom if he had been dismembered there. And the crime as the father is admitting to it was a spur of the moment thing. I don't think it was. I think it was premeditated and the long delay in admitting to murder has only served to make it more difficult to determine whether the father is truthful or not. He certainly took a page out Casey Anthony's book, and I suspect he has given more thought to where to hide the body........

(In all of the above, the word father is used only in the loosest possible meaning of the word.)

They're no closer to finding out what has happened to Giovanni now than they were this time last year. Apparently there is still doubt as to whether or not his father actually killed him, even though he confessed.

I think they should move the father from "administrative segregation" and see if the other inmates can help him remember what happened to Giovanni.

A Superior Court judge has ruled against a defense lawyer's attempt to prevent evidence gathered from the apartment of Ernesto L. Gonzalez, the Lynn father charged with parental kidnapping and willfully misleading a person in the investigation involving the disappearance of his 5-year-old son in 2008, from being introduced at his trial.

Defense lawyer Lawrence J. McGuire argued at a preliminary trial hearing last month that the five searches at his 2 Brightwood Terrace violated his client's rights and the warrants failed to establish probable cause to search the apartment and seize his property.

Judge John T. Lu in his one-page ruling handed down Monday said "police concerns about the child's safety and obvious inculpatory evidence related the defendant, Mr. Gonzalez, provided ample probable cause for the issuance of the search warrants" and therefore the motions are denied.

Seized from the apartment was information on a computer along with DNA specimens which included blood on a knife and blood on a floorboard.

Authorities investigating the disappearance of a 5-year-old boy have said in court filings they discovered the child's blood on several items in his father's Lynn apartment.

The Boston Globe reports that the documents filed in January said Giovanni Gonzalez's blood was found on a knife, on the floor, on the bathroom threshold, and on a bottle of cleaner.

The boy, whose birthday is Saturday, vanished on an August 2008 visit with his father, Ernesto Gonzalez. The father is charged with parental kidnapping and misleading police. Gonzalez said in a 2008 Globe jailhouse interview he killed the boy.

This case is really weird. Father in '08 admitted to killing Giovanni and still there were doubts. Maybe not now as evidence supporting his claim appears to be unfolding, little Giovanni will not be considered missing any longer. Perhaps the mother can have closure now, that her son is dead I'm sure has been hard for her to fully accept. Imagine being told such a horrific story, stabbing, dismembering, bagging body parts throwing them around dumpster in town---uh, I don't think I could handle that reality very well, I can understand why she's been holing on to any hope. Why has taken so long to FINALLY get to this point in the case? very odd.

AMW (http://www.amw.com/missing_children/case.cfm?id=58380) still has Giovanni as missing not sure if that's simply not updated as it doesn't look like they have the latest that ucat posted.

"I recently allowed Ernesto [Gonzalez] to see his son, again, because he acted like he wanted to be a part of his life," Daisy said. "Just before I dropped him off at his apartment for that weekend, Giovanni got upset with me because I put him on timeout for smacking his little sister."

"He started packing all of his clothes," she told us. "He said he was moving with Daddy. I told him no, he only gets to visit you on the weekend."

[...]
When Daisy didn't hear from her Giovanni after repeated calls to Ernesto Gonzalez's home, she came to pick her son up on Sunday.

That's when Daisy says she was surprised to get no answer at the front door. Worried and concerned for her child’s safety, Colon called the police.

Also came across some info I didn't see here, so apologies if this is dupl. info. Gives insight into why the mother strongly feels little Giovanni is still alive.

Colon doesn't believe Giovanni is dead; she believes Ernesto hid him and he's still alive. She speculated that Ernesto had taken Giovanni to Puerto Rico. Both Ernesto and Colon were born in Puerto Rico and have family there. Investigators looked into that theory and contacted Ernesto's Puerto Rican relatives, but they found no evidence that Giovanni was on the island. Colon stated after one visit with his father, Giovanni came back "pretending to be someone else." She believes Ernesto was coaching him to use a false name. She said when Giovanni was packing for his final visit with Ernesto, he wanted to pack considerably more clothes than he needed.

My heart goes out to the mother who's days must feel like darkness and the nights give no reprieve for sleep. Perhaps now she can find closure.
“The only thing I want to say, Giovanni, is I miss you and love you so much,” Daisy Colon said. “I’m looking for you.. . . My heart is broken.” (Daisy Colon with Giovanni...happier days.)

It might have been hasty to post little Giovanni's picture earlier in this case with a "rest in peace" on it but now I really do think we are talking about a little boy who was killed most brutally by his father. May you be at peace little Giovanni, that your mother's love that holds to you deep in her heart transcends any terrible last moments that ended your life.

Thank you Misskittychaos, and hold on to your hope. As for Daisy Colon, hope is all you have left and no one has the right to take that from you, you do what you have to do. My heart goes out to you.

Father of Giovanni Gonzalez considering plea deal

[..]
The Boston Globe is reporting that Ernesto Gonzalez of Lynn, the father of Giovanni Gonzalez, may be working on a deal as he’s held on charges of parental kidnapping and misleading police.

Gonzalez confessed to a Globe reporter during a jailhouse interview in November 2008 that he killed the boy, but has never been charge with his murder.

The mother of 5-year-old Giovanni went to pick him up from his father’s in August 2008 but Ernesto claimed he didn’t have the boy that weekend.

Giovanni’s mother, Daisy Colon, still holds onto hope that Giovanni is alivehttp://www.myfoxboston.com/dpp/news/local/globe:-father-of-giovanni-gonzalez-considering-plea-deal-20101126

BOSTON -- A judge has tossed out the parental kidnapping charge against a Lynn man whose son disappeared nearly three years ago.

Ernesto Gonzalez was charged in August 2008 with parental kidnapping and misleading police after his son, Giovanni Gonzalez, disappeared after a visit at Ernesto Gonzalez's Brightwood Terrace apartment.

The boy remains missing. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Lynn police at 781-477-4436.

I find it odd that even though the father confessed to killing him and disposing of the body that they still consider him missing and have age progressions available... Is it because they don't believe him?

Damn! This sounds eerily familiar in some respect. I won't say who but we all know the name of the baby killing bitch.

From UCat's post last year:

I don't think he's alive.

The blood was later determined to not be Giovanni's.

The blood was later determined to not be Giovanni's.

Hmmm mysterious. Then I guess I can hold out hope, it's just so hard now.

This time around, with the presence of the authorities, Ernesto Gonzalez answered the door.

Police say Ernesto insisted that Daisy never dropped Giovanni off. They say he claimed he had been at home all weekend, and was not aware of a scheduled weekly visit.

When asked about a fresh laceration on his hand, Ernesto told police that it had nothing to do with his son's disappearance.

Authorities discovered a mop that had been stained with blood and drenched with bleach. They say they also found a cleaning aid that could be used to remove remnants of blood.

Father Suspected Of Foul Play

Daisy Colon believes that her son is alive and she is determined to find him.

Ernesto was arrested and is currently serving time for child endangerment, although, he still proclaims his innocence.

"The police told me they found Giovanni’s toys at Ernesto’s house, but they didn’t find his backpack or any of the clothing I had left for him," Daisy said.

Several witnesses at the Lynn Behavioral Clinic also confirmed seeing Giovanni on August 16, 2008, while accompanying his father to a scheduled appointment. The two were seen together between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The most disconcerting evidence against Ernesto, police say, are the items found inside his apartment.

Authorities discovered a mop that had been stained with blood and drenched with bleach. They say they also found a cleaning aid that could be used to remove remnants of blood.

In an attempt to learn more about the mysterious blood found in his home and the cut on his hand, authorities confiscated Ernesto's knives.

The Search For Giovanni Gonzalez Countinues

Giovanni was last seen wearing these Spiderman sandals.

Ernesto, according to cops, is a known substance abuser and said to be an aloof father figure; he is being held on a $500,000 cash bail.

Authorities have not yet ruled Giovanni's disappearance a homicide and still consider that he may be alive and well. His family also holds out hope that they will find Giovanni soon. The FBI has joined in the search, and is actively passing out flyers near Ernesto's home.

Giovanni was last seen wearing blue jeans, a red T-shirt, a pair of black Spiderman sandals, a Transformers backpack, and a silver braided necklace.

An endangered child advisory has been issued by Massachusetts State Police, as well as the Lynn, Mass. Police Department.

Authorities suspect Giovanni to be in imminent danger and anyone with information concerning the young child’s whereabouts should call our hotline at 1-800-CRIME-TV right now.

Each time this thread pops up, I keep hoping I'll click on it and he'll be found safe, tucked away just hidden. And each time, I'm disappointed. I know chances are so slim but I still really want to hope.

I took my boys to the rec. pool today.
I met a little boy that goes by the same name as Giovanni; more so, he looks just like him.
First thing was the big O ears, lol, then the smile.
It didn't occur to me 'till this evening looking at this thread, starting thinking about that kid and how he said his name is
Giovanni...and the resemblance, it struck me so strongly. He's 8yo too as Giovanni would be today.
Think I'm going to call tomorrow and report what little I know. I fiigure it can't hurt and it will gnaw at me if I don't. Had I known about Giovanni's birthmark to the lower right chest (also ankle) I would have looked for it, but I just read on that today as I looked for more info. Being nosy, I did ask who the boy who he was there with, he said his uncle and pointed him out to me.
And I'll be damn, looking at the father's photo now that there isn't a striking resemblance to the man I saw today.
IF there is hope to be found it is with someone taking notice....assuming he's alive.

He didn't look at all like the age progression photo but a lot more like Giovanni at 5. The child said he is 8yo. omg...and I took a photo of my boy with him but it's not the best photo as they are both wearing goggles and well, you can't see a lot of detail....
this is the picture I took today (http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s341/silvahalo68/myboys/c3b9f31b.jpg). my boy is to the right.
What ya'll think? am I just reading into this?

So I called today. They took down my info and asked a lot of questions said they'd pass this on to the lead investigator. Hope they found the info useful. I feel better I said something. As much as I have felt Giovanni was killed, there is a strong possibility he wasn't, and the mother seems convinced he's alive.

EDIT: The investigator called me and wants me to email him the photo. I'm going to do that now.

The Lynn father charged with misleading investigators searching for his missing 5-year-old son is now facing charges of attacking his cellmate at Middleton Jail, leaving the other man with potentially disfiguring injuries to his face and eye.

Ernesto Gonzalez, 39, was the last person seen with his son, Giovanni, during a weekend visitation to his Lynn apartment in August 2008. When the boy's mother, Daisy Colon, went to pick him up, Gonzalez allegedly claimed that he hadn't had the boy that weekend.

While Gonzalez purportedly confessed to killing the boy to a newspaper reporter in 2009, prosecutors have not found sufficient evidence to conclude that the boy is dead.

Gonzalez has been held since his arrest on parental kidnapping and the misleading-investigators charges at the Middleton facility. Prosecutors are in the midst of appealing a recent decision dismissing the kidnapping count, said Steve O'Connell, spokesman for the Essex County district attorney's office.

On the morning of Oct. 30, according to court papers, cellmate Orlando Diaz, 56, of Lawrence was brushing his teeth and bent forward to take a sip of water when Gonzalez struck him in the back of the head, sending him face first into the metal sink.

Correctional officers found Diaz, bleeding "profusely" from his eyes and face and covered in blood, in the cell.

Gonzalez stood silently, in an "aggressive" stance, breathing heavily, at the back of the cell, according to the incident report.

Diaz was taken to Beverly Hospital and then transferred to Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. He suffered several broken facial bones and a severe injury to his right eye that will require surgery to repair, the incident report said.

Diaz told investigators that he and Gonzalez had been assigned to the same cell two weeks earlier and that they'd spoken little, exchanging perhaps 40 words in that time.

Diaz is currently awaiting trial on several charges, including attempted murder, which stems from incidents in Lawrence and Methuen in August in which he allegedly repeatedly rammed a car that his own son was driving and then tried to run him down when the son got out to check the damage, The Eagle-Tribune reported at the time.
