STOCKTON - A 20-year-old Stockton man was arrested Saturday morning after, police said, he invaded a north Stockton gas station brandishing a homemade sword.
And it wasn't the first time, police said.
According to a police report, officers were called around 8 a.m. to Chevron, at 3355 E. Hammer Lane, on a report of a man threatening customers with a stick. When officers arrived, they saw Thomas Neel, 20, brandishing a 5-foot-long homemade sword.
When officers ordered Neel to drop the sword, he refused, police said, and shouted, "Shoot me!" and "I need blood!"
Three times police shot Neel with a stun gun, to no effect. An officer shot Neel with non-lethal rounds, to little effect. So a K-9 handler was ordered to send in his dog. (I love it when cops unleash the hounds.)
The dog bit Neel and pulled him to the ground, police said.
Neel was disarmed and taken into custody. At San Joaquin General Hospital, he was cleared for booking into the County Jail on suspicion of exhibiting a deadly weapon with intent to resist arrest, assault, manufacturing an illegal weapon, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.
In early July, police said, Neel visited the same gas station and threatened to kill employees with a railroad spike.
Neel is being held in lieu of $559,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
