PORT ST. LUCIE — Hair weave left at the scene of a Wednesday robbery and beating played a key role in helping investigators slap the cuffs on a Stuart woman, according to a police report released Thursday and a spokesman.
The 27-year-old victim told police of ongoing problems with a former friend, 20-year-old Cissie Houston, that stemmed from the fact that Houston used to date the victim's new boyfriend.
The victim said Houston and a 16-year-old girl followed her to a Cumberland Farms store in Port St. Lucie where they started punching her. After Houston stopped her attack, she stole $20 and a cell phone, saying, “Now you can't talk to your boyfriend anymore.” She then “keyed” the victim's 1990 Lincoln and left.
Two witnesses gave a similar account of the events.
The victim showed investigators some hair weave left at the scene that reportedly fell from Houston's head during the attack.
Police caught up to Houston in Stuart, and she initially denied being at Cumberland Farms. When police told her about the witnesses and other information, she admitted being at the store but said she wasn't in an altercation.
“I asked C. Houston how I obtained her hair weave that was left at the scene,” an officer wrote in the report. “C. Houston now stated she was at the Cumberland Farms and that while she was getting gas she threw her weave away in the garbage and (the victim) must have taken it out of the garbage.”
Police reported Houston repeatedly lied and gave differing accounts of the brawl.
Officer Robert Vega, police spokesman, said the weave, which police took into evidence, played a key role in the case.
Houston faces charges including strong-arm robbery, felony criminal mischief and burglary to a vehicle. Police haven't found Houston's alleged 16-year-old accomplice.
