Police on Friday arrested a Jackson man who is accused of throwing a knife into the face of his stepson. The teen was in stable condition Friday in Memphis.
Police had been searching for Thomas Carver III, 41, on a warrant that charged him with the attempted murder of his 16-year-old stepson, according to a release from the Jackson Police Department. The incident occurred Thursday night.
The release said that police responded to a disturbance call in the 2700 block of Campbell Street around 11 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities found Carver's stepson with a knife stuck in his face. The teen was transported to a local hospital and then on to a regional hospital facility in Memphis for surgery, the release said.
Jackson police Sgt. Tyreece Miller said that Carver was not at the residence Thursday night when the injured teen was found.
"He was gone when officers arrived Thursday night," Miller said Friday afternoon. "He had left the residence when the call was made."
In a Friday release, police Capt. Mike Holt said that Carver was arrested around 3:20 p.m. Friday. Officers checking the residence met Carver exiting from a crawl space under the house.
Police said that the teen's wound is not life-threatening and the teen was "doing fine" Friday afternoon.
The release said that police believe Carver and his stepson had been arguing and that Carver threw the knife at his stepson. Police said that Carver will be arraigned at 8 a.m. Monday in City Court.
