This caught my eye owing to it being in the news due to recent jury selection woes.

Polk County, NC (hey, it's just a couple hours away so I figured me an' my SC self'll cover it) has a funny sense of humor. That's all I can think of. Otherwise, how would one explain why they'd elect a man who's STILL awaiting trial for the rape of 2 girls back in the late 80's?
Our dear recently elected sheriff professes that, of course, he's incapable of committing such crimes. He also attests that this case is entirely motivated by the campaign of his opponent, David Satterfield, in regards to the fact that he had potential for winning the election to sheriff.
However, the case itself was brought before the police (again) by the mother of one of the two girls. She'd originally brought the case to police in 1990, but was turned away as 'there wasn't sufficient evidence to prosecute.' She, in response, sent letters to the local papers about her daughter's plight. When she saw Abril's name up in the running for sheriff, she decided to dust the cobweb's off her accusations and bring them up once again.
Well, now after 2 years of delays, Mr. Abril will be facing a jury and finally getting tried for apparently stickin' it to two 10-11 year old girls back in the late 80's.
I'd bring more info to the plate, but... that's all I could find with my short attention span and my bed screaming my name at ungodly decibels. :tongue1:
