KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knox County Sheriff's Deputies are trying to figure out why a 6-month-old baby was found in the middle of road, and a two-year-old child was left to roam the street unattended on Mascot Road near Alco Loop in East Knox County
The Knox County Sheriff's Office says a driver noticed the 6-month-old boy in the middle of the street without a diaper on. That's when the two-year-old boy darted across the street to a nearby house where a relative apparently lives. The driver stopped, called 911, and got the baby out of the road.
KCSO spokesperson Martha Dooley says the boys are half-brothers. Dooley says their mother was moving into her sister's Mascot Road home from Sevier County, but had gone back to Sevier County. The mother apparently thought the children were asleep inside her sister's home.
Deputies and workers from the Department of Children's Services responded to the scene.
The 6-month-old boy's father is in jail on child endangerment charges in Sevier County, according to Dooley.
