Omaha, NE - 117 cats, that's how many animals the Humane Society pulled out of a North Omaha home this morning. They found dozens of cats, a raccoon, and a rabbit in the house. Some of the cats were dead and some so sick they're being kept in a separate area here at the Humane Society.
Hanae Kaea had rescued the mainly feral cats to protect them. When officers went in though they found a lot of the cats were sick, some with sores and blood on them and the floor was covered in feces. When the cats owner showed up, she insited there was a reason for the cat feces. "I changed all of the litter boxes, I fed all of the animals and made sure they all had clean water and everything before I had to go to a doctor appointment. The next 5 or 6 hours I would have spent cleaning up after them like I always do," says Kaea.
This isn't the first time Kaea has been in trouble for hoarding. At one time the Humane Society pulled more than 200 cats from her house. She's also been cited for child neglect she says, because she was feeding her cats instead of her teenage son.
The owner is now in trouble for cruelty to animals and a host of other charges. Police actually caught up with her when she was reportedly stealing cat food and smelled like urine.
