MILFORD— A Hopedale man was in Milford District Court yesterday to face child rape charges.
Douglas Erickson, 38, of 57 Westcott Road, Hopedale, was arrested Tuesday afternoon after being interviewed at the Hopedale Police Station. He was charged with rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
He was ordered held at the Worcester County House of Correction on $25,000 cash bail by a clerk magistrate, and is to be formally arraigned today.
Hopedale police said the arrest came after a two-week investigation completed with help from the Worcester district attorney’s office. According to court records, the offenses, involving a 4-year-old girl, took place June 25.
According to court records, the girl was interviewed June 30 at police headquarters by Hopedale police, along with forensic psychology investigator Tracy DeFusco from the Worcester district attorney’s office, Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Riddle, and state Department of Social Services investigator Lucia Fulginiti.
During the interview, the girl described Mr. Erickson performing various sexual acts on her. According to court records, the girl’s description corroborated a previous allegation made by the girl’s mother. The statements gave prosecutors probable cause to arrest Mr. Erickson, according to court records.
According to court records, a woman interviewed by police the day after the alleged rape said that Mr. Erickson was depressed, drank a lot, had a temper, and was abused as a child. Mr. Erickson told her that five years ago he was caught filming a woman in a bathroom without her consent. It was unclear from court records whether the woman who gave the account to police was the girl’s mother.
