MANATEE COUNTY — Authorities arrested a Hillsborough County woman on drug possession and child neglect charges Tuesday after they say she used heroin in her truck at a Manatee gas station, then passed out in the hot vehicle with her 11-month-old infant in a car seat next to her.
Nadia D. Null, 31, of the 400 block of Sheffield Street in Wimauma, was arrested in the case.
According to a report, a Manatee deputy responded to a call and found Null passed out with her head on the steering wheel of a truck parked near a Shell station at 5303 14th St. W. around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The deputy said he tried to awaken her, and finally did after about 10 minutes of trying. The deputy said he could see the woman and the baby sweating inside the truck.
After waking the woman, the deputy said he found a spoon with a powder on it, a needle and three small bags on the seat. At that point, according to the report, Null told deputies the powder was heroin and that she had used the drug around 12:30 p.m. that day and pulled over after getting tired.
Null later told authorities she has a problem and needs help. The boy with her was taken into protective custody. Null was jailed on a misdemeanor charge was well as two felonies, including felony child neglect.
