Toddler Seriously Injured, Mother Arrested For Child Endangerment

SAN LEANDRO -- A 2-year-old boy remains hospitalized Wednesday after suffering a fractured skull and a broken arm that his mother claims occurred when she fell on him over the holiday weekend, according to the Police Department.
The boy's mother, 25-year-old Monica Holloway, told police she and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Hayward resident Kenneth Williams Jr., were arguing at Holloway's San Leandro apartment and that Williams pushed Holloway, who was holding the boy, police Lt. Tom Overton said.
Holloway claims she then fell down on top of her son, police said. She said she didn't seek immediate medical attention for him because he appeared to be fine, according to Overton.
"He was crying, but they didn't see any injuries at the time," Overton said.
The incident happened sometime Friday or Saturday, Overton said.
On Sunday morning when the couple checked on the boy, they saw blood coming out of his ears and smeared on his pillow, Overton said.
Williams, who is not the boy's father, drove Holloway and the boy to Kaiser Permanente in Hayward but did not go inside the hospital with them, Overton said.
The boy was found to have a fractured skull, a broken leg, and bruises and abrasions, Overton said.
The doctors do not agree with the mother's account of what happened, police said.
"From the doctor's statement, they didn't think the injuries were consistent with a fall," Overton said. "They think it was blunt trauma to the head and body."
Kaiser Hayward subsequently sent the boy to Kaiser Oakland Medical Center to see a specialist and the boy was placed in intensive care where he remained Wednesday.
Holloway has been arrested and faces charges of child endangerment and corporal injury on a juvenile. She remains in custody in Santa Rita Jail.
Williams was also arrested but has since been released, and no charges have been filed against him, Overton said.
Williams and Holloway have a 14-month-old son, who is in the custody of relatives, Overton said.
