JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX Atlanta) -- Investigators in Jackson County await autopsy results to try and determine how a Jackson County woman died. Her body was found inside a freezer at her home.

Family members found 42-year-old Billie Welty Sunday.

Billie Welty's body is now at the GBI crime lab-- but they have not been able to do her autopsy yet because they're waiting for her body temperature to come back up to normal.

However -- they say right now, they do not suspect foul play.

"The family is devastated-- they don't know what to think," said a family spokeperson David Lapsky.

Family members last heard from 42-year old Billie Welty Thursday night. Three days later, police say she was found dead inside her own freezer.

"She was in the freezer, yes ma'am," said the Police Chief Joe Wirthman of the Jefferson Police Department.

"It's that bizarre, it's that unheard of, it's totally off the wall," said Lapsky.

Police say Welty was discovered Sunday afternoon in her kitchen -- inside the stand alone freezer -- with the door open.

Her estranged husband found her.

how is there NOT foul play suspected, with the door being open?

"Trying to find out if it is accidental, suicide or if foul play was involved. It is suspicious-- but we're working it -- GBI is doing the main part of the investigation," said Wirthman.

Police are still preserving the area around Ms. Welty's home -- and while they are still calling her death suspicious -- the GBI is saying it does not suspect foul play.

"The air conditioning was off, and it was very hot-- she had made several jokes she could fit in the freezer," said neighbor Rachel Garrard.

Police are not saying if Welty -- who lived alone -- got into the freezer herself. Neighbors say she'd made several comments about doing so.

Maybe she just overheated and was going to do the freezer trick but died before she got the door shut??

Weird...

I've said before that it was so hot that I was going to climb into the freezer. I never did, nor would. This case stinks to me.

Something's rotten in Denmark, er, the freezer, on this story for sure. How could you possibly freeze with the door open?

is it possible she suffered from heat stroke.. on her way into the freezer?

I would really like to see the crime scene... erm... photos, as gruesome as it sounds. I am very curious about this one. And, I'm wondering about the freezer door being open. I'm also wondering about the estranged hubby. Hell... I would even settle to see a sketch of the crime scene. Ah well...

Russell suspects Welty may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol when she decided to sit inside her freezer to stay cool.

The air conditioner at her townhouse home did not work, and the very petite Welty had talked before about sitting inside the freezer, Russell said.

"This was just a horrible accident," she said.

Welty was starting to come to terms with an addiction to alcohol and recently had decided to start attending Alcoholic Anonymous, Russell added.

She was expecting her first grandchild at the end of the summer, and was very excited about being a grandmother, she added.
Bummer. That addiction crap ruins too many lives beyond the addicts. I wonder what the autopsy will say...

This is sooo strange!!
Could she have had a heart attack maybe?
Maybe she was drunk and like the frostbitten feeling, you know instead of the warm, fuzzy feeling!

Seriously, I am interested in finding out the autopsy reports!

Sure. That makes complete sense. No foul play suspected... but the body WAS IN THE FUCKING FREEZER?!?! Seriously.. they should give cops an IQ test before they're allowed to comment. Give me a fucking break.
