TAMPA A police officer used her Taser to stun a shoplifter, but he continued fighting and stunned her with the weapon, police say.

The man, 51-year-old Gilbert Morris, later stunned the store's manager and pointed the Taser at two more officers before being arrested, according to a police report.

Morris had stolen $229.27 in groceries from Sweetbay on Monday night when the manager initially confronted him, the report states.

Reached today, Morris said he stole groceries but that he isn't a violent person.

:doh:OK she should have made him stay down until she had assistance. With the probs still in him she had the upper hand. Luckily he didn't grab her gun instead.

That man is 51? Im just saying, he looks 35, not that he should be tasering people

How the hell do steal $229 worth of grocercies???? Load the cart up and run for the exit???

Store Manager shouldn't be physically fighting someone over stolen groceries, lucky for the store employees he didn't have a gun, people get themselves killed protecting stock from a store they are employed by are going way too far in their service to their employers.

A man with a history of 50 arrests ...

Morris, who has used a variety of aliases, has served five stints in state prison since 1987, in addition to jail time. He was incarcerated from Sept. 13 to Jan. 30 on charges of grand theft, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. His other convictions include battery on a law enforcement officer, robbery and cocaine possession, records show.
He sure sound like your garden variety asshat. Not violent, my toot-whistle!! Although it does seem it's mostly the cops he gets violent on.

Why does Florida let him even walk around? Doesn't look like anything has "rehabilitated" him and obviously "punishment" isn't causing him to mend is ways.
