A Jacksonville man is accused of shooting an 18-year-old after telling him to pull his jeans up.

It happened about 7:15 p.m. Saturday at Cross Creek Apartments on Manotak Avenue. Police arrived to find the 54-year-old suspect standing next to the victim. The suspect had a gun in his waistband but kept his hands up for police.

Several witnesses told police the man followed David A. Mitchell into the courtyard from the pool telling him to pull his pants up. The two began to argue, and the younger man pushed the suspect before being shot in the stomach, according to the arrest report.

Mitchell, who was released from the hospital the same day, told the Times-Union Monday that the bullet is still in his side but the doctors say he’ll be fine. He said he had never seen the man and knew his shorts were sagging. He said he pulled them up, but the man said it wasn’t enough and just kept coming. So he pushed him off and tried to walk away.

John C. Constantin , who lives at the Westside apartments, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. According to the arrest report, he told police it was self-defense after he was assaulted for telling Mitchell to pull his pants up.

Family reached at his home Monday offered their apologies and said Constantin was remorseful for what happened. He remains in jail on $100,000 bail.

Baggy jeans are NOT a reason to shoot anyone.

Shit, you can place bets on whether or not the pants will fall. Don't say a word. When the pants sag low enough he'll bust his ass and you'll get a good laugh out of it.

I gotta admit, watching these kids waddle around town, I've been tempted once or three hundred times to dole out some punishment. Sometimes, I just wanna trip the little fuckers or push em and laugh when they can't get up.

I have always wanted to sneak up behind one, grab the back of their pants and just yank and see how hard you have to pull to trip them up on their own pants...lol!

Hey, wasn't there a movie made about this guy, with Keanu Reeves? Yeah, they say it was baggy pants, but really, the guy might've been serving as a conduit between Hell and Earth. Did the gun happen to be really shiny and shaped like a cross?

I agree it is no reason to shoot someone..but damn..I hate seeing kids running around with their asses hanging out!!
Although I am pretty lucky, being from the boondocks, you don't see it much! But hell when you go to the city, you see all the gang bangers running around with their pants to their knees. And why do some of them wear shirts that are 4 sizes to fucking big?

Came across this today...I figured it kind of fit here.

Officers in Flint, MI are warning saggy pants wearers that they soon may be ticketed for indecent exposure if they don't pull their pants up.

There is one quote in this entire article that made me think about this particular story......
"We ain't never heard someone got shot because their pants were sagging."
