Man accused of sexually assaulting sleeping bus passenger
FARGO – Police arrested a North Carolina man at the Greyhound bus station here this morning after witnesses said they saw him inappropriately touching a sleeping female passenger.
The witnesses saw the alleged assault taking place when the interior bus lights came on as the westbound bus arrived in Fargo.
“They were there to investigate and also to protect the suspect from the other passengers, because they were pretty upset,” Sgt. Jeff Skuza said.
Police arrested Giir Biar, 39, of Charlotte, N.C., on suspicion of gross sexual imposition, a felony.
The victim, an 18-year-old from Virginia, told police she had taken medication to prevent motion sickness and believed that’s what caused her to fall asleep.
The case may get moved to Minnesota as prosecutors sort out who has jurisdiction, Skuza said.
