CHARLESTON -- A Charleston man was in jail Thursday on charges that he beat and raped his ex-girlfriend.
Travis S. Dawkins, 23, of 163 Seventh Ave. broke into his ex-girlfriend's London home early Saturday, handcuffed her, beat her and then sexually assaulted her, according to a release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
"The ex-girlfriend reported being awakened when Dawkins broke in through a window of her London residence. The ordeal lasted several hours before Dawkins fled," the release said.
The victim then left and immediately contacted police.
Detective B.K. Carper charged Dawkins with kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault and nighttime burglary, the release said.
He was being held without bond at South Central Regional Jail.
