Cody Charlton's Parents Run A Day Care At Their Home In Lakewood

GOLDEN, Colo. -- A 31-year-old Lakewood man living with his parents, who run an in-home day care facility, has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography and attempted sexual exploitation of a child.
The Jefferson County District Attorney's Office said Monday Cody Ryan Charlton was arrested May 1. Lakewood police officers executed a search warrant at his home in April and allegedly found a sexually graphic video and images of children.
Authorities didn't say if any of the children pictured were those who were being cared for at the home.
Officials say Charlton's mother operated a day care facility at their home, located at 1958 S. Van Gordon Street in Lakewood.
The childcare license had been suspended Thursday.
Charlton posted a $15,000 bond last week, but he is not allowed to possess weapons, be around underage children or have access to the Internet.

Because the investigation has been, and still is under investigation, the district attorney's office said it waited to alert the public until several potential witnesses were interviewed.

Cody Charlton sentenced for improperly touching kids at his mom's home daycare

The Facebook page for Lakewood's Cody Charlton features a single like: Big Brother, a TV show in which bad things often happen to people confined in a house. Which is appropriate given that he's just been sentenced for improperly touching at least ten kids at the home where his mother ran a daycare operation -- and where he also lived.

Charlton's arrest affidavit was sealed in the immediate aftermath of his trip to the hoosgow, but we now know authorities believe he took sexually explicit photos of several of the kids at the daycare -- pics that presumably supplemented a number of child-porn-oriented videos and images he was found to possess.
In addition, Charlton is said to have touched what the DA's office refers to as the "intimate parts" of several youngsters. Authorities believe most of the incidents took place in the home daycare setting, but he also babysat for a couple of the youths, with one documented grope taking place at the child's home.
The collected evidence apparently convinced Charlton to enter a series of guilty pleas this past January. They include sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust and sexual exploitation of a child, both felonies, and misdemeanor unlawful sexual contact.

He'll serve just two years behind bars. But he'll also be placed under the sex offender intensive-supervision probation program for twenty years to life and is required to register as a sex offender
