Jacksonville Beach Police say it's one of the most disturbing cases it has ever dealt with.

Police say a woman sold her six-year-old daughter to two middle-aged men for sex in exchange for crack cocaine.

They say Dalina Nicholas, 39, sold her daughter to Quinn Brooks, 56, and John Hagans, 47.

Nicholas was arrested in Columbus, Georgia, where police will be going this week to pick her up and bring her back to Jacksonville Beach.

Brooks and Hagans are being held in the Duval County Jail without bond.

The tip about the abuse came from a homeless man who flagged down a passing police officer and told him what had been going on in the home, said Sgt. Mark Evans, the lead detective in the case. The man said he'd been to the home to use drugs in the past and was aware of the abuse.

Police launched an investigation and then sought to arrest Nicholas after an interview with the daughter, who gave them details of sexual and physical abuse. Nicholas, by that time, had fled the area. The child and a sibling were being cared for by Nicholas' mother and father.

The child, who was 6 at the time of the allegations and just turned 7, remains in the custody of the grandparents. She is receiving therapy and other treatment from state child welfare agencies, said John Harrell, a spokesman with the Department of Children and Families.

Jacksonville Beach Police Chief Bruce Thomason said Nicholas lived in subsidized housing in the 400 block of Sixth Street South and supported herself and a drug habit by selling her daughter for various sex acts. Witnesses told police drugs were frequently used in the home, where Nicholas let people stay.

"I can't think of an adjective that's bad enough to describe [the allegations]," Thomason said. "Anyone who would harm a child is just beneath contempt."

But Nicholas’ mother, Deborough Morgan, said her daughter and granddaughter were both sexually abused by drug dealers. Morgan said her daughter, who she described as a recovering drug addict, did not condone or know about the abuse of her daughter. Morgan said the child could verify the story.

“These drug dealers kept returning and basically they took over her home,” Morgan said. “She was as much a victim as her daughter was.”

A child protection team interview with the victim gave police additional information that led them to seek the mother's arrest, Evans said.

"It was heartbreaking ... to hear the things that this little girl said had taken place," Evans said.

Quinn M. Brooks, 56, of Jacksonville and John F. Hagans, 47, who is homeless, were charge last month with sexual battery in the case, police said Monday. They are being held in the Duval County jail.

Hagans, also known as Mute, was interviewed by police in mid-February. He told police he lived with Nicholas and her daughter in the past, but he denied having any sexual contact with the girl.

Hagans told police there were many people in and out of the home and that drugs were frequently used there. Brooks was arrested last week after a witness identified him as one of the men involved with the victim.

So I'm guessing this homeless guy didn't have any sexual contact with the girl but knew what was going on based on the statements made. I'm happy that he did what the girl asked I'm sure it must have eaten him up inside knowing what was going on but drugs probably kept interfering with his moral compass that until she asked him to help make it stop he could just keep telling himself it was ok. She also gave a graphic account of three different men who touched her.

Police have arrested 47-year-old John Hagans and 56-year-old Quinn Brooks on charges of sexual battery involving the child.

Police are also looking for a third suspect, 51-year-old Norman James Thompson.

I am for some reason doubting grandma's story since the little girl asked the other homeless guy to make it stop, yet grandma says the mom would sneak the little girl out of the house barefoot? I am sure she added the barefoot to make her daughter look even more like a protective mom. I don't know if DHS requires the parenting classes but if they do at least he is taking them and making the efforts to get his daughter back. I don't think staying with grandma is good for the girl's mental and emotional health. Grandma is in a deep deep denial when it comes to her daughter's lifestyle and the abuse against the girl. It's pretty obvious if a stranger (the homeless man) notices something wrong. I'm guessing the girl didn't just walk up to him and tell him since she probably had a fear of men in her home. I'm guessing something happened or the girl's demeneor prompted the man to talk to her. Once he showed a little bit of concern she felt she could ask for help. I doubt she had asked any of her abusers (including her mother) for help since they were the one's inflicting the harm on her. Obviously it wasn't safe to ask mama but safe enough to ask the homeless man. Yeah so I doubt highly mom was an unknowing victim. She wanted her fix at any expense. Sure I believe mama probably got smacked around but I do not believe for a moment her mom didn't know nothing. If the mom ever took her out of that house it was in a drug induced reaction....not because she was trying to protect her. I don't buy the whole story for one minute.

Note to grandma....a homeless drug addict who went to the house looking for a fix show more concern about your granddaughter's welfare than her own mother did.

A Jacksonville Beach mother who repeatedly allowed her 6-year-old daughter to be sexually abused for drugs and money has pleaded guilty to four counts of child neglect.

Dalina Nicholas, 36, faces a minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum of 30, the State Attorney’s Office said.

As part of Wednesday’s plea deal, a charge of sexual battery was dropped against Nicholas. She also has agreed to testify against four others charged in the case.

Nicholas will not be sentenced until those trials conclude.
