NEWARK, Del. (CBS 3) ― A Delaware mother has been arrested after allegedly shooting her own teenage son Thursday evening.
Desirre Hogan, 38, is accused of shooting her 13-year-old son at his father's home on Grosbeak Lane in Newark. The teen was taken to Christiana Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
According to police, Hogan is not permitted to be at the residence because of protection from abuse order but was spotted by her son at the back of the home with a handgun.
Police said Hogan's son refused to answer the door and that is when Hogan fired a single round through the window striking the teen in the shoulder.
The teen flagged down a passing motorist who allowed the teen to get inside. The motorist then drove the victim to a safe distance away from the home and called 911.
Following the shooting, Hogan fled the scene and police eventually located her outside a home in Midvale, Delaware.
Police said during negotiations, she placed the gun inside her mouth and against her head and pled for officers to shoot her.
While negotiating, a family member exited and grabbed Hogan. Police said the weapon discharged once into the home but not one was hit.
"The mother now is at the Wilmington Hospital where she's being evaluated. She will face charges when she's released from the hospital, most likely attempted murder or some sort of assault charge as well as weapon offenses," Corporal Trinidad Navarro said.
