A Jasper County judge ordered an 18-year-old Alba resident bound over for trial Wednesday on a felony assault charge alleging that he shot his grandmother repeatedly with a plastic-pellet gun.

“He shot me in the eye with the air gun,” Patty Howe testified at the preliminary hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin for her grandson, Dustin M. Howe.

The grandson is accused of shooting his grandmother with an air rifle on Jan. 28 at her home in Alba, north of Joplin. He is charged with second-degree assault.

The grandmother told the court that her grandson shot her “two or three” times in the hip and legs in addition to the shot that struck her eye. She said the shootings took place inside their home at 319 N. East St. in Alba over a two- or three-day period. She estimated that he shot the gun at her eight or nine times altogether, missing her with some of the shots.

“He thought it was cute,” she told the court. “His girlfriend thought it was cute. They’d go down the hallway laughing.”

okay, y'all. here's where this gets interesting.

Lest i give away too much personal info, let's just say that I am familar with the judge in this case, and likewise familiar with the hospital that treated the grandmother. Who, by the way, was apparently placed on a psych hold when she went in to get treatment for her pellet wounds, so she really might be a little off her nut. That's not to say that the kid did nothing wrong, though. He's got pages of court records up in here - mostly petty, but at least one restraining order that never went through, and he's only 18.

i think i might front page him just for fun because the mood i'm in, it's either him or the guys who murdered Charlie the Tuna. :D
