DNA cracks 23-year-old rape case, authorities say
A DNA match implicates a state prison inmate in the rape of a woman in Homestead in a 23-year-old rape case, authorities say.
Douglas Hill, 48, was booked into Miami-Dade County Jail, charged with kidnapping, sexual battery and robbery. He was denied bond Wednesday morning in Miami-Dade court.
Hill was serving prison time at Dade Correctional Institute for drug, burglary and and grand theft convictions for crimes committed in 2001-2002, records show.
The raped woman was sitting in a parked car in Homestead at midnight on July 13, 1985, when Hill approached her. They struck up a conversation and she agreed to give Hill a ride home, Miami-Dade police say.
But the car stopped in an isolated area, Hill yanked the keys from the ignition, beat her up - delivering two black eyes, cuts to her face and bruises to the neck - then raped her, police say.
He also stole her wedding ring, police say.
On Nov. 7, Miami-Dade's Crime Lab called sexual crimes cold case Detective William Nadramia with news: a DNA match had been returned to Hill, according to court documents.
He found the woman, who said she never had consensual sex with the stranger. Hill was interviewed at Dade Correctional Institute but refused to talk to the detective.
