HAGERMAN — The Chaves County sheriff says a 15-year-old girl may have saved her own life by jumping headfirst out of a vehicle's window to escape her kidnapper, an Albuquerque TV station reported.

Sheriff Rob Coon said the girl was checking the mail at her grandfather's house Wednesday when a 29-year-old registered sex offender, Mark Esquibel, robbed the man and demanded the girl get in his pickup truck, KOAT reported.

Esquibel drove off, and Coon said when authorities caught up with him they witnessed the teen fighting back.

''She threw a knife and gun out of the pickup, and a short time later at about 40 miles an hour, she jumped out of the window headfirst,'' Coon said.

The girl was taken to a local hospital and treated for head injuries.

Esquibel faces more than a half-dozen charges, including armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravating assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated burglary and child abuse.

Good for her!

Not only did she save her own life, but her refusal to be a victim is going to help her recovery no end.

Wow, excellent job on her part. Eliminate the weapons then run! He sure picked the wrong victim!

Here's an alternative fiction version, ala The Ransom of Red Chief:

In an exclusive interview with KOAT, the grandfather of the teen girl who successfully foiled the plans of her kidnapper tells us his side of the story.

"I tried ta tell him," the elderly gentleman said. "You be better off kidnapping me, cuz she's hard headed and she don't listen. I tell her that all the time, 'Girl, you don't listen.' She usually just cuss at me or throw something at me. I could show you some scars. He lucky she didn't shoot him with his gun and crash his car for spite."

Why throw when you can use? I'm so happy this girl survived. Honestly, I would have capped him with his own gun in the nuts and then asked, "Was it as good for you as it was me? Then I would have laughed the evil laugh and capped him again.

The dirty bastard!
