ROCKDALE COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A dog in Rockdale County has been reunited with her owner after falling into a 20-foot abandoned well, where she remained trapped for seven days without food or water.
Melissa Johnson told CBS Atlanta that it was unusual for her Rottweiler mix, Leslie, to go missing.

On Saturday, Johnson's dad found Leslie in a well near West Hightower Trail and Irwin Bridge Road while he and Johnson were out searching for her.
"What did you think when you heard there was a dog in a well?" reporter Jennifer Mayerle asked Lt. Matt Troutman.
"Cool. I'm a dog lover, we'll get her," Troutman said.

"She didn't appear to be hurt, just making circles around the bottom of the well, so we just had to decide how we were going to get her out," said Battalion Chief Ray Prewitt.
Troutman climbed down a ladder into the well, and then put a harness around Leslie the Rottweiler.
"We had to experiment, never used one on a dog before but we modified it a little bit," Troutman said.

Firefighters used a harness and a ladder to rescue Leslie.
Home video captured the rescue. It showed Leslie being pulled right out of the well. The firefighters actually trained for this type of event earlier this year. Her owner Melissa Johnson was ecstatic to see her.
"She was ready to see momma, and begging for food," Troutman said.

Johnson rescued Leslie from being euthanized a little more than a year ago, and couldn't stand to see her trapped once again. This dog is resilient.
"She was just the same as when we got her out of the hole as she is right now. I was surprised she wasn't hurt with the depth of the fall she took," Prewitt said.
The firefighters who brought her to safety were just as glad this had a happy ending.
"You can tell they care about animals as much as they do people. That's why we do this job just to help out where we can," Prewitt said.
