'Marry Your Baby Daddy Day' celebrates marriage, minister says.

Daneisha Dunbar of Harrisburg will marry her longtime boyfriend, Aaron Yancey, next week. at the same time as three other couples: Lakeya Taylor and Jason Green of Harrisburg, Angel Baio and Jerry Scheib of Lykens and Ashley Thompson and Robert Folks of Camp Hill.

Love might be the primary reason those four committed couples, all of whom have stayed together since having children, have decided to take the marital step. But it took a push from a church and its visionary pastor to put the "do" in "I do."

William Jones Jr., the senior pastor of Reclaim the Streets Ministries, at State and 18th streets in Harrisburg, borrowed a concept that developed in New York: Marry Your Baby Daddy Day.

The program's title has a whiff of preschool sing-song to it, but Jones is deadly serious about it. It is a thoroughly adult enterprise. The church offered free weddings to the couples.

"We wanted to celebrate marriage in Harrisburg," said Jones, a Harrisburg native and Steelton-Highspire High School graduate who has been a minister for two decades. "We wanted a vehicle to push marriage in Harrisburg."

The weddings will take place June 12 at Reclaim the Streets.

I mean, if they were already going to get married, then that's fine. However, why do you HAVE to be married if you have a child? Just because you reproduced together, doesn't mean you're a perfect match.

Also, is that a picture of the couples? Isn't it missing two people?

While I can see and appreciate the free wedding ceremony thing (even the person who presided over mine was $150.00). But I hope that this church is indeed offering some kind of marriage counseling along with it all.
