A 23-year-old Charlottesville man has been arrested in connection with what police say is the videotaped sexual assault of his fiancée.

Timothy James Hoffman was arrested Wednesday and charged with forcible object sexual penetration. He is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, said Charlottesville spokesman Ric Barrick.

On the night of May 17, Hoffman and his fianceé attended a Madonna-themed party at a local dance club, according to court documents filed Monday.

The victim told police that she had two drinks and began to feel ill. She asked Hoffman to drive her back to his residence on Goodman Street.

Upon arriving, the only thing she could remember was vomiting in his yard and in his bathroom, according to the court documents.

“[The victim] does not remember anything but being very sick,” Detective Nicholas Rudman of the Charlottesville Police Department wrote in a search warrant affidavit.

A few days later, the victim stumbled upon a videotape among Hoffman’s belongings. She watched the film and saw herself passed out and being sexually assaulted in multiple ways, according to the search warrant. The film also shows Hoffman taking pictures of the victim with a cell phone camera, the warrant states.

The victim told police that the videotape was from the night of the Madonna party because she recognized the outfit she’d worn, according to the court documents.

In the video, the victim is clearly incapacitated, Rudman wrote in the affidavit.

“I viewed the video and observed [the victim] saying ‘no’ and she appeared completely helpless,” he wrote.

Hoffman and the victim had

recently obtained a marriage license, Barrick said.

Charlottesville police searched Hoffman’s apartment Wednesday and confiscated a long list of items, including 17 videotapes, 15 compact discs, three pornography magazines, cut up Polaroid photographs, a Sony camcorder, computer disks, two cell phones and an Apple computer, according to the court documents.

Hoffman has had a few brushes with the law. He has been found guilty of charges of petty larceny, trespassing on church or school property, stealing or tampering with coin-operated equipment, obstruction of justice and driving under the influence.

Hoffman had been ordered by the court system to enroll in the Bridge Ministry, a Central Virginia nonprofit that seeks to transform the lives of troubled or incarcerated men through Christianity. However, he failed to complete the program, according to the organization’s founder.

Holy shit! I know the crime is shocking, but this is what jumped out at me:
