Neighbors Team Up With Store Owner To Thwart Robbery
Manchester Teen Accused Of Stealing Beer
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Residents of a Manchester neighborhood chased after a teenager accused of trying to steal a 30-pack of beer Monday.
Police said Brentt Trudeau was shirtless when he walked into Mr. Market at 297 Spruce St. about 6:15 p.m. The store owner, Danny Patel, said Trudeau tried walking out of the store with a 30-pack of beer.
Patel and his cousin scuffled with Trudeau, who dropped the beer and ran out of the store, police said.
"As the guy was coming out of the store trying to escape, the owner came out and started smacking him with a stick, a plunger or something," said witness Debbie Martin.
Patel said five neighbors started chasing Trudeau, but Martin said the number was closer to 20 or 30.
"They came out of the woodwork," she said. "They were coming from every which direction. Even little teenagers were running after the guy, telling the adults where he was going."
The chase came to an end in an alley. Martin said it was her husband who brought Trudeau down.
"He goes, 'The Patriots lost. I'm gonna have to show Brady how it's done,'" she said. "So he tackled the guy. Slammed him right to the ground in the bushes."
During his arraignment on a felony robbery charge, Trudeau told the court he lives with his mother.
He is being held on $15,000 cash or surety. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Oct. 12.
