Cortland, New York (WSYR-TV) - A Cortland Junior-Senior High School teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with a student.

Police say Nicholas Thomas, 26, of Duane Street in Cortland is accused of having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl at the school.

Thomas has been charged with third degree rape and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Police conducted numerous interviews and searched Thomas’ classroom.

Cortland City School District Superintendent Larry Spring says Thomas has been suspended without pay.

Spring says he is expecting this investigation to be brought to a swift and just end. He also says the district is cooperating with police in their ongoing investigation.

Thomas was arraigned and sent to the Cortland County Jail on $1,000 bail. He is scheduled to be back in Cortland City Court on June 2.

A not guilty plea in court this morning from Nicholas Thomas. He's the Cortland teacher accused of raping and sexually abusing students at Cortland high school.
Nicholas Thomas was suspended from his job as a social studies teacher at the school, after charges recently surfaced. He's accused not only of rape, but also
of sexual abuse, forcible touching, and child endangerment. All of his alleged victims are students at the school.
