Deputies Searching For Missing Teacher
Aug 30 2011
LEE COUNTY, FL - The Lee County Sheriffs Office is seeking information on a Lee County teacher who failed to show up for work when school started.
According to deputies, 41-year-old Amy Patterson hasn't been seen since mid to late July.
Patterson is a teacher at Mariner Middle School in Cape Coral, but did not show up for work when classes started on July 25th.
"It's not like her, where would she - what happened? I just kept asking what happened? Where? When? What?" said her mother, Ladonna Salehi. "We just want her home. We just want her home safe - that's all."
Detectives would like to speak with Patterson's boyfriend, 44-year-old Daniel Proctor.
Patterson and Proctor had married years ago, only to divorce and then begin dating again.
Lee County deputies say it was Proctor's mother, Joyce Rosenbaum, who called to report that the local science teacher was missing.
His mother told us over the phone that when her son showed up at her Alabama home last week without Amy, but in her car, she got worried.
"I asked him where Amy was and he had said she went back to Texas to be with our grandson. Well, she's not there," Rosenbaum said.
Then, Rosenbaum says she told her son to leave and called Amy's school, only to realize that Amy had been missing for almost a month.
That's when she called the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
"When she didn't show up with him and he was in her car that she had, I think anybody would have been concerned," she said.
She explained that was last week, and says that was the lasttime she saw her son.
"Her disappearance is very suspicious. This is very unlike her," said Lieutenant Ryan Bell, with the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Fearing the worst, but hoping for the best - Salehi says the last time she and her daughter spoke was on July 9.
"We were talking about all the funny things you have to do to get your classroom ready and everything. And we were just laughing and joking about it so I had not had thoughts of any concern for her whatsoever," she said.
At the couple's Bokeelia home, the doors and windows are sealed with evidence tape.
Neighbors we spoke to say the couple fought a lot.
Gloria Sabella lives across the street and says she was concerned after not seeing Amy for a few weeks. She says she even asked Daniel where she was.
"He sat on that porch and told me this wonderful story and cried to me how she went to go visit her son and was killed head on in a car accident," Sabella said.
For now, detectives are not commenting on those allegations as they continue to search for Proctor to try and find out what could have happened to his ex-wife.
Officials we spoke to say Proctor could be carrying a .38 caliber handgun and should be considered dangerous. They also say he was last seen driving a white, 1997 Ford Explorer with the Alabama tag, 47N8272.
Deputies say he stole the gun and the Explorer from a friend after ditching Amy's car.http://www.nbc-2.com/story/15359604/2011/08/30/deputies-seeking-info-on-missing-teacher
Missing teacher 'likely victim of domestic homicide'
Sept 1 2011
LEE COUNTY, FL - Authorities are on the hunt for the ex-husband of a missing Lee County teacher who investigators believe is likely the victim of a domestic homicide.
Amy Patterson, 41, a science teacher at Mariner Middle School in Cape Coral, hasn't been seen since mid to late July.
Deputies said Patterson is likely dead.
"There is no reason to believe she is still alive. There is always hope, and we always hope for the best, but at this particular point it doesn't look good," said Ryan Bell of the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Patterson's mom is hopeful her daughter will be found alive.
"We're holding out hope. She's strong too. I mean Amy's strong. She's very independent and we're hoping she fought it off and got away and she's maybe hiding," she said.
Thursday, the Lee County Sheriff's Office announced that Patterson's ex-husband and current boyfriend Daniel Ray Proctor, 44, is a wanted suspect in the case.
Detectives say he's 5-foot-8, weighs 175 pounds and has brown hair and green eyes.
Patterson's disappearance has made national news. It was featured on Nancy Grace's show on CNN Wednesday night.
Proctor's mother, Joyce Rosenbaum, reported Patterson missing after Proctor appeared at Rosenbaum's home without Patterson but in her vehicle, according to Rosenbaum.
"I asked him where Amy was and he had said she went back to Texas to be with our grandson," Rosenbaum said. "Well, she's not there."
Proctor, who's considered armed and dangerous, fled in Patterson's vehicle, which was later recovered in Alabama, according to the Sheriff's Office.
