Naked man found in stranger’s house
Thursday, May 29, 2008
A Boulder woman woke up Wednesday morning to find an uninvited naked house-guest knocking on her bedroom door, police said.
The woman called police at 6:30 a.m. when she heard a knock on the door of her master bedroom, which she’d locked because her husband was out of town and the lock on one of her outside doors was broken.
She told police she initially thought the person inside her home was a contractor, until she realized how early it was. The woman asked the man on the other side of the door who he was, and he answered, “Steve,” according to a police report released Thursday.
That wasn’t the name of the man she thought would be coming to work on her house, so she called police.
When the first officer arrived at the home, in the 4800 block of Sixth Street, he found “a white male with a shaved head and tattoos on his body trying to open the west rear patio door of this house from the inside,” the report said. “I saw that this unknown male party was completely naked.”
Stephen Wooster, 38, of Boulder, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree trespassing, a felony.
Police searched the woman’s home, but didn’t find anything missing. They did discover that sheets in a basement bedroom were disturbed, and they found a wet towel, leading them to believe Wooster spent the night in the house and took a shower there.
The victim told police that she was “very upset and ‘grossed out,’” the report said.
Sometimes, the intruders are burglars. Sometimes, he said, they’re just confused.
A responding officer said he didn’t smell alcohol on Wooster’s breath.
