Officer responding to break-in nabs dead turkey

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) -- A police officer investigating an apparent break-in at a Kalamazoo business instead nabbed a dead 10-pound turkey, police said.

Officer Paula Hensell was conducting checks on local businesses Sunday morning when she noticed that a business's front window had been shattered, the police department said in a statement.

Hensell entered the store assuming a burglar was still inside, but instead found a wild turkey lying dead on a table.

Police said the turkey apparently died after flying through the window.

I have finches flying into my window all the time. Scares the shit out of me because I will be sitting here typing when one of them bounces off the window. I am like 2 1/2 feet from the window. Yesterday when I made a store run one of the doves decided to commit suicide.

I usually have birds dive at my vehicle. They must like the big red shiny pickup. "Ooohhh, Lola...look at that pretty...THWACK!" Although last week I witnessed a prairie dog run face first into a curb and bounce back like a rubber ball. :car:

Turkeys are mean viscous birds! One pecked the eye of our little dog. Another chased my grandson across the lawn. I kicked that one, scooped up the kid, and ran like hell (I'm scared of the feisty ones).

I suppose they can fly but I've only seen them waddle, run, and park their butts in the road when you want to drive through. MAN!! it had to be going a good clip to crash through a window.

I bet the responding officer caught a lot of shit from her co-workers from that call for sure...
