This is most likely the film that I most want to see this year. It's very disappointing that the release is only limited. I'm a big Herzog fan and I'm very interested to see what he will do with this as it is one of his more commercial looking films.

I'll probably re-watch Little Dieter Needs to Fly around the same time that this film gets released. I highly recommend that film to anyone with any interest in it. If you aren't familiar with Herzog, I also recommend you check out Aguirre: The Wrath of God, Nosferatu the Vampyre and Fitzcarraldo among his other work.

Here is an interesting article I just found on Yahoo about Herzog and Rescue Dawn: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070621/film_nm/herzog_dc

Killroy... Figuring in that stole your layout for this, do you mind if I repost this at BD or would you prefer that I lay it out differently for that?

You can use the same format if you want. Take out the Fandango link, though. Not that they would mind, at least I don't think they would, but it is my affiliate link and I'd hate to be accused of us spamming anything. :)

Do you want me to send you my program that automatically formats those posts? You just copy and paste the info and it formats the entire post for you.

I saw a trailer for this back in December, when I saw Rocky Balboa. The words "Directed by Werner Herzog" came on the screen and I knew I had to go see it.

Then, I saw the Steve Zahn was in it and my heart sunk. He is one of the most worthless actors in the modern era. I hope Herzog got Zahn's first good performance captured in the film.

This film is Fantastic!

I thought the movie was completely engrossing with a tremendous storyline that did
not rely on too much violence or special effects, Christian Bale, Jeremy Davies and
Steve Zahn were tremendous and the visuals were stunning in the jungle.
definitely one of the better movies of 2007.

Watch the special features after the movie!!! It explains more about the other POWs
that the movie didn't! Christian Bale is fantastic in this and Werner Herzog has to be
one of the greatest directors of our time!

9/10

I saw it back when it first opened in the theathers, and like you was impressed. Definitely one of Herzog's best movies to date. Same goes from Zahn, who is really underrated, perhaps because he seems like a light version of Steve Buschemi in many films.

"This film tells the real-life story of U.S. fighter pilot Dieter Dengler, a German-American shot down and captured in Laos during the Vietnam War. Dengler organized a death-defying escape for a small band of POWs, including Duane Martin.

A fictionalized account of personal bravery and comradeship in the early days of the Viet Nam war. The story follows the experiences of Lt. Dieter Dengler whose plane was shot down over Laos and taken prisoner by the North Vietnamese. In a story that should not be classified as either pro or anti war, it explores the tragedies of war for all involved."

Mr. Hip and I both wanted to check this film out and I am so glad I did. I have always been intrigued with the Vietnam War. I've read a lot of books and watched a lot of movies regarding the War. I remember in the 70's a First Cousin coming home from Vietnam pretty fucked up, I've also a few friends over the years who were Vietnam Vets. (Just trying to explain a bit of my profound interest in Vietnam):)

Christian Bale did a wondrous job with this character. I immediately fell in love with this guy. He is the type of dude, you'd want for a friend. The guy you know you can always depend on with strength and measure beyond belief, a brother in the true sense of the word.

His wonderful strength is what gets him through his horrid ordeal....(I'm glad this was rated PG-13 due to the torture scenes[I am such a pussy)]. He and his fellow prisoners went through some shit, and I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat, wondering what in the fuck. What would I have done? Damn, scary decisions had to be made and carried out.

The filming was beautiful. Twas done in Thailand, I discovered on imdb. The jungle scenes I found beautiful....sad the horror that went on in a country with such beauty.
I would definitely watch this movie again.
I give it a strong 7/10
