TEMPE, Ariz. -- James Ferris, 58, was arrested last week on 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Court records reveal police found binders full of child porn in his Tempe apartment.
“It’s scary. It’s really scary,” said Valerie Phillips. “We got all these kids living over here and that’s not good. I got grandkids that come to visit. I love kids, and I’m a safety mom.”
Police caught on to Ferris after a pedestal fan caught fire at his apartment while he was away, and firefighters spotted a binder filled with child pornography.
Court records obtained by CBS 5 News show police estimated there may have been 400 photos, printed from websites, in the binder. Also, investigators reported finding approximately 30 binders, similar to the first one.
Records also showed that Ferris worked in the kitchen of a resort next to a splash area and admitted to police he “watches little girls running around in their bathing suits, but said he is able to fight off any sort of physical action with the girls.”
Ferris lived at the same Tempe apartment near Baseline and Hardy roads for 17 years -- yet no one seemed to know much about him. Most said he kept to himself.
