Sioux Falls police this evening announced the arrest of a registered sex offender on six counts of rape in connection with three boys between the ages of 10 to 12 years old.


Todd Ronald Brim, 41, 300 N. Franklin Ave., is charged with three counts each of first degree rape and second degree rape.

Police spokesman Loren McManus said police received a call on Tuesday when one of the three victims, now 16, told his mother about the incidents.

Police were contacted this morning by the Department of Child Services about a second victim, McManus said. The two boys are brothers. A third victim is a friend, he said.

Police have identified two other victims, who were seven and 10 years old at the time of the alleged abuse, but charges have yet to be filed, McManus said.

Brim was arrested at 5:15 p.m. He is being held on a $500,000 cash bond at Minnehaha County Jail.

We're learning more about how a registered sex offender was able to re-offend and prey on Sioux Falls children. Forty-one-year old Todd Brim is charged with first and second degree rape.

In court papers filed today one of Brim's victims says he was assaulted by the registered sex offender up to 60 times over the last five years.

Details like that, pushed police to charge Brim with child rape and get him off the streets to stop him from possibly offending again.

We warn you some of the information is disturbing.

Investigators say Todd Brim made friends with boys in his neighborhood, earned their trust, and eventually had sex with them.

According to these papers Brim bought the boys stereos, food, even drugs and alcohol. One victim said he met Brim when he was "mentoring" other young boys.

Court papers say the abuse started slowly with Brim touching a boy's thigh, he would eventually convince the boys to get naked and rub their bodies with coconut oil before raping them.

Sioux Falls Police Lieutenant Greg VanDeKamp says, "Some of the assaults did take place at this residence but I think the majority of those assaults actually took place at area motels."

One victim told police Brim started making sexual advances toward him on a camping trip. He said he resisted and Brim told him it was normal and that if the victim told anyone Brim would commit suicide.

Police say if it wasn't for last night's arrest, the crimes would have continued and other boys could become his victims.

VanDeKamp says, "This was a serious situation and the chance of having another offense in a very short time was great and within one days time we went from nothing to what we had and he's in jail and the community is much safer now."

Police say the most recent abuse happened this past Saturday.

Brim is being held on a half million dollars bond. His next court appearance has not been set.
