GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. -- Sheriff Robert Pickell held a press conference Wednesday to announce charges against a Genesee County man who allegedly had sex with his 68-year-old stepmom.
Prosecutors said Jeffery Rosencrants sexually molested his stepmother, a woman suffering from Alzheimer’s.
Authorities said this was just months after he was released from prison for molesting children.
The only way officers were able to bring him into custody was a failure to change his address per his probation requirements.
Rosencrants was arrested in April after failing to register as a sex offender and now he’s charged with four counts of criminal sexual conduct with someone who is mentally disabled.
Rosencrants was released from prison in September after spending 12 years behind bars for abusing children.
His father allowed him to move in with him but was kicked out after his dad suspected some sort of abuse was occurring.
The crime was discovered by the Sheriff’s Elder Abuse Unit’s social worker.
Experts from the unit said such abuse is more common than people think.
They said at least 2 percent of the elderly will be victims of sexual abuse.
Rosencrants is being held in jail on $75,000 bond for each count and if convicted, he faces a possible sentence of life in prison.
