A French father-of-two is to take GlaxoSmithKline to court on Tuesday, alleging the British firm's drug to treat Parkinson's disease turned him into a gay sex and gambling addict. The 51-year-old's lawyers say their client's behaviour changed radically after he was first administered the drug in 2003 for the illness, which causes tremors, slows movement and disrupts speech.
Didier Jambart, a married father-of-two who says he has attempted suicide three times, claims he became addicted to Internet gambling, losing the family's savings and stealing to feed his habit.
He also became a compulsive gay sex addict and began exposing himself on the Internet and cross-dressing. His risky sexual encounters led to him being raped, his lawyers said.
The behaviour stopped when he stopped taking the drugs in 2005 but by then he had been demoted in his defence ministry job and was suffering from psychological trauma resulting from his addictions, his lawyers said.
The plaintiff is seeking a total of 450,000 euros ($610,000) in damages from Glaxo, which he accuses of selling a "defective" drug, and from his neurologist for having failed to properly inform him about the drug.
The drug, Requip, has been known for years to have undesired side effects but a warning only appeared on its package insert in 2006, his lawyers said.
Glaxo said it did not wish to comment on the case.

Requip is a bitch like that.

I had a patient who took it, and within a year had spent over thirty grand he didn't have on hookers and gambling sites. It's a mess.

Thing is, the impaired impulse control (a side effect of the drug) also uncovered a thing he had for major goresex. He was horrified, but couldn't stop looking. He even stopped taking the drug in hopes that it would help, but then the Parkinson's would get worse and he'd find himself going back to the drug to relieve the symptoms. Then, after months of staying off the internet and budgeting properly, he'd find himself spending 24 hours at a time online checking out stuff that made him puke when he was not on the drug.

He finally stopped it and told his doc not to put him back on it even if he begged.

impqueen ok I have to ask, what is "goresex"? I tried to google the term and the only thing I got back was re: the Al Gore sex scandal. You've piqued my curiosity for all things debauched and nefarious.

What a dumas.
If there were such thing as a gay drug, every male in college would be gay because their buddies slipped them the drug while they were drunk.

A small number of people taking Parkinson's medicines, including Requip, have developed a problem with gambling. It is not known if this is caused by the medicine itself or something else. If you or your family notice that you have an unusual urge to gamble, make sure to talk with your healthcare provider.

Apparently at least the gambling part of his story is correct. Gambling is listed as a known side effect for this drug.

Yeah. I gotta know what goresex is. The name alone is... Kinda turning me on because I imagine its just blood.
If dead things are involved, then no.

Oh joy of joys!
This is what I have to look forward to? I had heard of the compulsive aspect of the side effects (sex, gambling, eating, etc).
Never had I heard it would make you gay!

By the way, do these heels make my legs look fabulous?

Urban dictionary describes gore porn as depicted by naked bodies with blood rushing out.
Ok, I'm a little less turned on. If it were just trickling blood, alright. But not menses blood. HORK!

Well, if this drug Requip is making some people gamble when they didnt before and have sex impulses they didnt have before, then if they can find out what part of the brain, DNA or whatever is changed by the drug, they have a first step in the process of how to control this behavior... and a baby step in the process of possibly controlling any addiction... Im sure some drug company or scientist somewhere has thought of this and is already working on it...

Since I don't twist to the left, I know I haven't! And I'm not about to start throwing that rumor about others in here! (With the exception of the person in the OP and the guy who was killed by one). I think I'm safe stating they were both stabbed!
