This is a fairly straightforward question, which I would assume does not require explaination. But in case I'm mistaken, the general idea here is to post a list of your favorite artists. Not 5, 10, or 25, but however many you want. Perhaps if you have similar taste to somebody else, they'll give some of the artists you suggest a try.

Believe it or not, you aren't. There is at least one more. People give me shit for it all the time, but I love Nickelback. I'm not ashamed to admit it. You'd think that since I have a vagina, people might be a little more understanding about it, but no. Fuckers.

The funny thing about it is that everyone claims to think that they suck, but all of their albums go multi-platinum and their singles are frequently on the top of the Billboard charts. Methinks some smarmy assholes are flat out lying about that shit.

I'll only list a few, but my favorites are:

Phil Collins/Genesis
Modest Mouse
Grateful Dead
Led Zeppelin
Maroon 5 (another love that people give me shit for - their new album kicks much ass)

Aw, come on now, ZB, sells mean nothing in terms of how good a band is, just how popular they are. Thankfully, I have not listened to the radio for music in years, so I couldn't even name a song of theirs unless I heard it and didn't know it was them. That's not me being elitist, just a simple fact that my music left the airwaves in the early '80s and then again in the early '90s. Since then, it has been my trusty MP3's and CD's.

I have way too many bands to list, so I'll just list a few off the top of my head.

Pink Floyd (with Roger Waters only), The Melvins, Oingo Boingo, Slayer, Type O Negative, Quicksand, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Samhain, Iron Monkey, Quicksand, Silversun Pickups, 35007, Monkey 3, Aphex Twin, Stormtroopers of Death, M.O.D. (early), Early Prince, Duran Duran, Veruca Salt, The Police, Tool, White Stripes, Genesis (early), Prodigy, GWAR, Primus, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson (early), Helmet, Led Zeppelin, ACDC (up to Back in Black), Berlin, Anthrax (State of Euphoria is one of my favorite albums ), Church of Misery, Faith No More, Hall and Oates, Deftones (as long as they are not live), Kyuss, Mindless Self Indulgence, Isis, Kylesa, Van Halen (Roth only), Rolling Stones (early), Hendrix, Metallica (early), Peeping Tom, Hazard County Girls....ah fuck it, I'm tired of listing...:)

Aw, come on now, ZB, sells mean nothing in terms of how good a band is, just how popular they are. This is true to a degree. How would they have gotten so popular if their music was really as bad as everyone claims? You mean to tell me that thousands of people just outright bought their albums just because Nickelback is popular? I dunno about anyone else, but I'm not going to buy a CD unless I've already heard it and like it. I'm not arguing or busting your chops. I'm just clarifying what I meant in my original post. :)

And lucky you for not having to listen to the radio. I had no choice but to listen to the radio in my office until I got Rhapsody and I HATED it.

You can bust my chops, ZB. :) I'm just saying that there is a reason why bands like Nickelback win awards and what-not while more talented bands go unoticed. Or why great movies tank at the box office while the latest Ice Cube flick goes straight to the top. It has nothing to do with quality.

But I do remember why I have heard of Nickelback. Fark posted a website about them awhile back:

Haha, that was awesome. All the songs sounding the same is the exact reason I dont like them. I borrowed a cd from a friend once, and swore I was listening to the same song over and over. Anyway, here's some of my favorites:

Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Trapt, Disturbed, Evanescence, Three Days Grace, 10 Years, Flaw, Hourcast, Adema, 30 Seconds to Mars, Shinedown, Alter Bridge, Nine Inch Nails, One Less Reason, Deftones, Incubus, Lifer, Ra, Tool

Jimmie's Chicken Shack

You are now the third person I know, including myself. that like that band. I should have listed them in my list. I turned my son on to them this year when I went through a phase of playing Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope. Had they released that album a year or two before they did, they would have gotten a hell of a lot more play.

Breaking BenjaminFunny you should mention that. I think the same about Breaking Benjamin. All their songs sound the same and they all suck. Granted, no one has made a site chastising them, but it's only a matter of time...

Well, there is one thing having a band sound the same...look at AC\DC...but another to play two songs from two albums that are years apart, and yet they still sync up. Not raggin' ya' as you are right, a lot of people do like Nickelback. Also, I haven't listened to anything they have done (aside from that site) to say anything at all about them one way or the other.

I have never liked AC/DC for that very reason. I believe I have even used that exact "Every song sounds the same and they all suck" sentence to describe AC/DC a few times before.

Foo Fighters, Stone Temple Pilots, The Fixx

Those would have been on my list as well. The Fixx's Reach the Beach is one of my favorite albums.

But Anal, don't you like Motley Crue? :p

I could probably put Motley Crue on my list, but I only like Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil. After that, I lump them in with the rest of the hair bands that I don't like. The same with Def Leppard. I LOVE Pyromania, but don't care for anything else they did. You know what? I would add Journey as well, but only if I am talking the Greatest Hits album.

You are now the third person I know, including myself. that like that band. I should have listed them in my list. I turned my son on to them this year when I went through a phase of playing Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope. Had they released that album a year or two before they did, they would have gotten a hell of a lot more play.
Jimmie's Chicken Shack is awesome. I've seen them live twice. They have shows near me very frequently.

Anyway... I'll list some of my favorites in a few minutes. I just had to stop to comment on that.

I like 80's pop, which would always include Tears For Fears, OMD, Naked Eyes, China Crisis and everybody else you can think of.

I know it has all aged quite a bit, and is a dead turn off for some people. But I compare it to a good bottle of wine - Some things really do mature with age!

Currently (since my "favorites" really change weekly) I'm spinning a lot of Sheer Terror, Burzum, Alcest, Darkthrone, Into Another, and Bracewar.

No certain order:

Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, Angry Samoans, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Pantera, Modest Mouse, Slipknot, Fear Factory, AC/DC, Alice In Chains, NOFX, Swingin' Utters, Fugazi, Bomb The Music Industry, Blue Meanies, Vandals, Germs, Queens Of The Stone Age, Seven Mary Three, MU330, Hatebreed, Cannibal Corpse, Nirvana.

The list could go on and on. I have an mixed taste in music but mainly only rock. I grew up with grunge so it's a huge part of what I still listen to and was what eventually led me into punk and all that.

Grateful Dead (huge fan of Jerry Garcia)You are my kinda lady!

I have this hanging above my entertainment center. My husband bought it for me for our first Christmas together. It is a signed, numbered lithograph, and it is BEAUTIFUL:

I also have a Steal Your Face blanket (that the kids have pulled some strings out of, sadly), and an original Garcia Ty Beanie Baby in addition to piles of other Deadhead memorabilia.

I cried the day Jerry died.

I'm really into Modest Mouse these days. For as crazy a fucker as Isaac Brock is, the dude is a GENIUS.

Another MM fan? I swear that The Moon And Antarctica might be the best album I've ever listened to. Brock's lyrics are always so strange and random yet seem to have a larger, deeper meaning. Their newer albums have been pretty good but nothing compares to Moon and Antarctica. I'm going to have to queue it up on iTunes now.

There isn't a song on that whole album that I don't love, although I have a special place in my heart for Good News for People Who Love Bad News.

I first heard of them when Float On was getting heavy airplay. I wasn't willing to give them a chance, since the name Modest Mouse had to have been the dumbest thing I'd ever heard, but Float On came out around the time I had my second kid, and 3am feedings went much smoother by the glow from the TV. About all that was on at that hour was actual music videos on VH1. I actually listened to Float On and was hooked. I went onto WinMX and downloaded anything from them that I could get my thieving little hands on. Brock is a genius. (I have since bought most of their albums if you're wondering. I'm all for supporting artists, but at the time, was too broke to afford to take a shit.)

Coincidentally, this is also how I discovered my admiration for Maroon 5. Their most recent album is fabulous, and that is taking into account all the studio tricks they have to employ to make Adam Levine's voice not sound like a dying cat. Have you ever heard him sing live?! YEESH.

Dirty fucking hippies!

I am definitely not a hippy nor a deadhead but I do love the music!;)

My list would take forever. I am VERY eclectic in my musical taste. I do not like most Country. I do not like most modern R&B. Other than that, I am all over the board.

Recent (for me at least) favorite would have to be Zero 7.

Nice ankle;) love the Deady Bears. I have a lovely "Steal Your Face" on my ankle. (thinks I have a pic somewhere) My hubbie has a nice one on his forearm with some cool tribal work he had done later. Picture of said tattoo:

I wanted to mention, I totally forgot on my list...
THE BEATLES (what is wrong with me, my son's name is Jude after "Hey Jude") I'm a huge John Lennon fan.

ZB,

Float On is what got me listening to MM as well. It reminded me of something that The Police or Iggy Pop would have put out in the late 70s. I really enjoyed it and sought out Good News For People Who Love Bad News. Good News is a fantastic album but it's not even remotely close (for me at least) to Moon.

My wife enjoys Maroon 5 but I just can't get into them. Not my kind of music, I guess. :)
