Randall William Cook, the three-time Oscar winner for his visual effects on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, will be making his directorial debut with a sequel to one of my all-time favorite horror films, the Canadian low-budget offering, The Gate. Randall Cook was also the special effects supervisor for the original. Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Andras Hamori’s H20 Motion Pictures has green-lighted the production which is currently titled The Gate - 20 Years Later.

The Gate. That brings me back. browsing the 99 cent rentals at the local video store andfinding god-awful horror movies. The Gate and Alice Cooper's Monster Dog are a perfect way to spend an afternoon.

I think I only caught it because it used to always play on HBO. I have fond memories of it. I think I even used to dig my back yard up as a kid wondering, just maybe, possiblely, if this could happend.......

But I watched it recently, and well, it didn't age so smoothly with me. I thought it was boring, the sequel was especially a downer. I'm just happy they are choosing to sequelize this rather than remake it.
