NEW HAVEN, Mich- Police are calling the death of a two-year-old girl in New Haven suspicious. Paramedics were called to a mobile home near the intersection of 27 Mile and Gratiot on Saturday afternoon.
When EMS arrived on the scene the little girl was already dead.
New Haven police say the child did not drown, wasn’t burned and didn’t show any signs of being hurt by a weapon. And because of the bizarre circumstances police are waiting for more information before they release a cause of death.
[...]
Sources say the girl's biological mother was not with her at the time of her death. The girl was in the care of her father.

Dad says 2-year-old fell from stepmother’s arms
New Haven police on Sunday were investigating whether the “suspicious” death of a 2-year-old girl was an accident or the result of child abuse.
As relatives of Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger awaited word from police, they also began preparing funeral arrangements for the precocious little girl whose smile warmed their hearts.
“She was a very sweet child who loved her mom — she was everything in this world to her mom,” said Lynette Furneaux, the girl’s grandmother who resides in Lapeer.
According to police, officers were called Saturday afternoon to a home on Apple Blossom Court in the Meadowcreek
Mobile Home Community near 27 Mile and Gratiot in New Haven for an unresponsive child. The girl was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead.
“The cause of death has not yet been determined and right now it remains as suspicious and under investigation,” Police Chief Michael Henry said in a news release.
New Haven police Sunday afternoon indicated there would be an update on the case later in the day, but none was provided as officers continued their investigation. An officer Sunday evening said additional information would be provided today.
An autopsy was conducted Sunday but Macomb County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz said he could not comment on the manner or cause of death because it’s an ongoing investigation.
The child lived with her mother, 24-year-old Lauren Fureneaux, at Lauren’s parent’s house in Lapeer. The mother shared custody with the child’s father, Jeff Wolfenbarger, who resides in New Haven.
Relatives who did not want to be named said Lily seemed to be afraid of Renee King, Jeff’s wife, who has three children of her own. Lily sometimes came home with bruises, a family member said.
Jeff Wolfenbarger could not be reached for comment Sunday, but he told WDIV-TV (Channel 4) that he didn’t want to believe his wife could have harmed the girl. He said his wife’s version of the incident was Lily fell out of King’s arms after being bathed.
“She did what she could, she told me,” Wolfenbarger told the TV station, adding his wife splashed water on Lily’s face in an attempt to revive her.
The status of the union between Renee King and Jeff Wolfenbarger was not clear Sunday.
Macomb County Circuit Court online records show Wolfenbarger filed for a divorce or annulment on Oct. 7, but the two appear to still be living together and he referred to her as his wife.
[...]
“Lily was intelligent beyond her years,” said Elizabeth Makedonsky of Imlay City, a friend of Lauren’s, and whose children sometimes played with Lily. “She was an amazing child with a vocabulary that was quite extensive for a 2-year-old.”
The family plans to have the funeral at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors in Lapeer. Anyone who would like to help the family pay for expenses may make a donation to a memorial fund that will be opened at the Lapeer County Bank & Trust.

New Haven Woman Charged With Murder of Stepdaughter, 2
NEW BALTIMORE, Mich. -
[...]
Renee Marie King was in tears as she begged the judge to let her go home. Her stepdaughter's funeral is Wednesday, but given the serious nature of the crimes she remains behind bars.
"I just want to be able to get out. I swear on my life I didn't do this. I never would," said the emotional defendant.
The 28-year-old mother of three is charged with killing her stepdaughter, two-and-a-half-year-old Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger at her New Haven home on Saturday.
"I just want a chance to get out. I will stay on a tether. I will report every day. I will do whatever it takes. I just want to be able to see my kids and my husband and be there with them through this hard time tomorrow," King said to the judge.
She told investigators she accidentally dropped the child while bathing her. However, prosecutors say she not only abused and killed the child, who died of blunt force trauma to the head, they allege she also sexually assaulted her with an unknown object.
Prosecutor Eric Smith asked for no bond. King briefly locked eyes with her accuser.
"Two of those three charges are life felony," Smith said. "One is a mandatory life felony. This defendant does not deserve to be on the streets."

Sick is what this pos baby killer is. Sick in her head, heart and soul. And you know she was likely jealous of baby girl and daddy's relationship too. Curious tho...
NEW HAVEN, Mich. (WXYZ) - 28-year-old Renee Marie King has been charged with murder, child abuse and criminal sexual conduct for the death of her 2-year-old stepdaughter Lily Furneau-Wolfenbarger.
During King's arraignment Tuesday, she blurted out "I swear on my life I didn't do it." She also said she wouldn't be able to go to Lily's burial unless she got out on bail.
Macomb county prosecutor Eric Smith told the judge King didn't deserve to go to the funeral. Smith said King killed Lily with blunt force trauma after severely injuring her genitals. Now, not defending the bitch, but I have to wonder, what the evidence is against her as I would think it links her strongly. Cannot help but think dad had a part in this...nothing really but a feeling, but then don't they almost always say they're innocent? She'd come home with bruises that could mean anyone with her prior had a hand at that. She was scared of her, relatives saw this and bruises, my questions to them is what did they do about it if anything as now it's too late.
What happened to baby Lily is disgusting and disturbing. I hope no stone is left unturned that the truth as ugly as it is is known, and ALL people guilty, who failed baby girl are charged.
Lily was absolutely precious.

I guess the Step-mother just couldn't stand the fact this little girl loved her BIO-MOM so much more than she could ever love her. I think it is "fishy" that the father got an annulment right after they got married - but then continued to live with her, I wonder if they were arguing over this little angel. Maybe darling Lily said "I want my Mommy" and that ENRAGED STEP-BITCH. But then this could just be the common story, one we have all read over and over - THE STEP-PARENT/BOYFRIEND/GIRLFRIEND GETS RID OF THE CHILD THAT IS NOT BIOLOGICALLY THEIRS (JUST LIKE A NEW LION TAKING OVER A PRIDE KILLING ALL THE CUBS SO HE CAN REPLACE THEM WITH HIS OWN) I know ya'll are tired of that analogy, but it just fits every time!
God bless my little redheaded baby - you will never be afraid again my darling.

New Haven Police Chief Michael Henry said the child's biological mother dropped her off at her father's mobile home, where King also lives, in the Meadow Creek Mobile Home Community around 9 a.m. Saturday.
King's own three children were not home, and her husband was at work. Henry said King called 911 just before 2 p.m. reporting she had an "unconscious child."
Smith said it appears that Lily was sexually assaulted prior to her "horrific death." Henry said several items were taken from the home and sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab. Authorities declined to specify what weapons may have been used to sexually assault and kill Lily.
If convicted of felony murder King will serve a mandatory life sentence in prison without parole. The criminal sexual conduct charge has a maximum penalty of life and a minimum of 25 years in prison. The child abuse count is a 15-year felony.
King requested court-appointed counsel and told Plawecki she's been in trouble a couple times before when she was "very young," but doesn't believe she has a criminal record.
Macomb County Circuit Court records show King's husband, Jeffrey Wolfenbarger, filed for divorce in October. The same month, King asked the circuit court to grant a personal protection order against Wolfenbarger. The request was denied and the case was dismissed, records show.

Keep crying you useless, evil whore, and get to used to it, cause you'll be doing plenty in prison - and hopefully the guards will have selective hearing. Worthless pile of shit! Baby was probably afraid of her cause she was molesting and/or sexually assaulting her the whole time! Fucking bitch!!!!!
If people said she seemed afraid of the sea cow, why oh WHY didn't someone do something? Did anyone even ask the baby, does the heartless hag hurt you? Could they have not done some serious spy shit on their own? Like put a camera somewhere in the room? Like the little button cameras you can get for 85 fucking dollars that are the size of a dime?

I don't understand how people don't take into account how a child reacts to an adult. If half of the adults paid close mind to how a child reacts when a certain person approaches many of these cases wouldn't get to the point where we are reading about them, and crying over them as well.
When I was a small child, there was a particular person I would fear, I even would urinate on myself, and still no one found this odd. Instead I was disciplined for messing my underpants or for crying or what ever my reaction. What I am trying to say is that some kids can not verbally express their feelings, but if you look at their reactions, you will easily figure out there is something up. When my 18 year old was about 2, I had him babysat by a friend. Well one day as I am dropping him off, he saw my friends husband and that child practically crawled up on my shoulders. That was a huge red flag that my child was going through some shit. I took my child home, and quit my job.
To me, my children are more important than myself. The day the 1st one was born, my life was not my own anymore and I knew full well that every move I made, every decision I took, would affect him.
So I don't get how this man couldn't see the distress in his child. The Bio mom, well she could have very well had her hands tied by a court order.

I am court ordered to give my kids to their dad every other weekend, every other holiday, Father's day and 2 weeks over the summer. My oldest daughter is such a momma's girl she hates to go over there.
There was a time where he was upsetting her every time she went out there. It got to the point where I left it up to her to decide to go or not. I just told him if he was going to upset her, I wasn't sending her. He was making it worse by running his mouth about me and making her dislike him more.. He makes her feel bad for not coming and accuses her of not loving him.
It sucks when you have to send your kid somewhere you know they don't want to go but you have to have some kind of proof of abuse before you can break the visitation order. As a mother who is forced to give my kids to a guy who I no longer really know..To me he is somebody who I cared about over a decade ago. I have no clue about who he really is all these years later. Yet I have to hope and trust that he loves our kids enough to keep them safe. He has been married twice and I had to trust his wives would not hurt my children.
I feel bad for this mother, I am sure she felt the father would protect his daughter. Bruises don't always mean abuse. I know that unless my kids tells me her dad or step mom hurt her I have to keep hoping the father will keep them safe. The dad and the step mom are the ones I am mad at.. Well, I sure feel for you, and I say that with all sincerity. A child upset over going to visit daddy would make me nervous especially if it happened often. And I do agree that bruises do not always mean abuse. My 7 yo has so many bruises on his legs I thought his pediatrician would certainly ask about them today at his well child visit, guess she knows the signs of questionable bruises.
In this cases Lily had bruises on her body, not sure how many and where on her body and how often this happened but as we see the ending was horrific. I just wish that at least ONE adult responsible for Lily would have been more vigilant, taken her little more seriously. It's always hindsight in cases like this. I guess question, question, question is the best thing to do and in some cases that isn't even enough. It's the what if's that drive me crazy. So sorry little Lily.

Six weeks before Renee Marie King was accused of sexually assaulting and killing her 2-year-old stepdaughter, she sought a personal protection order against her husband and the child’s father, claiming she was in fear for her own life.
“I don’t ever want him to be around me so he can put his hands on me again,” King wrote in her petition for the PPO in Macomb County Circuit Court.
King’s request for a PPO against her husband of two years, Jeff Wolfenbarger, was denied, according to court records. It had been filed one day after he filed for divorce from her, a move he later dropped.
Wolfenbarger attributes the legal maneuvering between the two to the everyday pressure of marriage and holding a family together in an uncertain economy, but added that he still supports the woman charged with his daughter’s death.
“Divorce is an ugly thing no matter what the situation is,” he said Sunday night.
“I absolutely do not believe the charges against her. Knowing her and knowing our family, I wouldn’t even be able to explain what kind of person would do the things she is accused of doing.”
[...]
Lily lived in Lapeer with her biological mother, Lauren Furneaux and Furneaux’s family. She had been visiting Wolfenbarger’s home in New Haven for the weekend when she died.
[...]
Authorities allege King used multiple objects to insert into the child’s vagina, tearing away at the skin, before using an unknown object to strike her in the head, killing her.
[...]
Lauren Furneaux’s family has said Lily resisted going to the New Haven home and frequently came back bruised after her weekend visits.
The child’s death took place six weeks after a dispute between the suspect and Wolfenbarger that resulted in King temporarily moving out and staying with her mother in Hazel Park.
Wolfenbarger filed for divorce on Oct. 7, claiming there was a “breakdown of the marriage relationship to the extent that the objects of matrimony have been destroyed,” adding there was no reasonable likelihood of a reconciliation.
The following day on Oct. 8, King applied for the PPO, claiming her husband had assaulted her, and was stalking her at her workplace and residence.
According to a copy of her PPO petition, King claimed that on Sept. 24 she refused to have sex with her husband during a camping trip in Lapeer and he bent one of her fingers backward and punched her in the back in retaliation.
On other occasions, she said in the filing, Wolfenbarger had thrown items at her including a cup, bowl and telephone. She also wrote about Wolfenbarger coming to her mother’s home in Hazel Park while the two were separated to retrieve a handgun he had left there. She claimed in the filing that he was “insulting and intimidating” and she needed to stay away from him.
She also had filed for a PPO against her first husband, Joel Freytag, according to court records, but the status of that request was not available.
Wolfenbarger denied ever hurting his wife, who moved back in with him along with her three children from another relationship. He has talked to her while she’s in jail and continues to stand by her.
“I have talked to her and I’m trying to keep our family strong,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wolfenbarger, who owns a painting company, said he would like to start a scholarship fund in the future as a tribute to his late daughter.
“Even if it takes years, I’d like to help someone pay for their college education in memory of Lily,” he said.

The only way someone could stand by a person who is accused of such a terrible thing against ANY child is if the person in jail is taking the rap for them.

Lauren Furneaux’s family over the weekend said Lily resisted making the 30-minute drive from Lapeer to her father’s home in New Haven. She often returned with bruises on her body, but Wolfenbarger said any marks were the result of typical kids playing.
“It’s always been a battle between Lauren’s parents and my side of the family,” he said.
Ass! They were paying attention. You were being a vapid, lax, couch potato, accepting whatever weak excuse your not-wife gave you. If you were actually a concerned father, you would have investigated the bruises, talked to your daughter, done things with her, been there for her.

Divorce is an ugly thing no matter what the situation is,” he said Sunday night.
“I absolutely do not believe the charges against her. Knowing her and knowing our family, I wouldn’t even be able to explain what kind of person would do the things she is accused of doing.”
King, 28, is being held without bond in Macomb County Jail after she was arraigned last week on charges relating to the Nov. 20 death of Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger.
She is charged with felony murder, which is punishable by up to life in prison upon conviction, first-degree child abuse, a 15-year felony; and first-degree criminal sexual conduct penetration with injuries involving a child below the age of 13, a life felony that carries a minimum of 25 years in prison.

The attorney for a New Haven woman accused of sexually assaulting and killing her 2-year-old stepdaughter said he will seek an independent autopsy as he begins to prepare a defense for her in court.
Renee King, 28, is being held without bond in Macomb County Jail after being charged in the Nov. 20 death of Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger. Police and prosecutors said the child died from blunt force trauma to the head and had been sexually assaulted.
At a brief hearing Monday in 42nd District Court in New Baltimore, defense attorney Richard Glanda requested an adjournment in order to give him time to review more than 90 pages of police and medical examiner reports.
“I’d like to get a second opinion through an autopsy from an independent medical examiner from outside the county, hired by me,” Glanda said outside of court.
The official autopsy was conducted by Macomb County Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz, who has come under criticism for failing to detect a bullet wound in the head of a Mount Clemens banker whose body was found in Lake St. Clair.
[...]
Police claim King used multiple objects to insert into the child’s vagina, tearing away at the skin, before using an unknown object to strike her in the head, killing her.
But King maintains the child’s death was an accident.
She has a pre-existing medical condition that often caused her knees to buckle, her attorney said.
“Her recounting of this is she had the child in the shower and slipped and the child fell,” Glanda said. “She lost her balance because of her knees while she was holding Lily in the shower.”
Glanda said he has yet to receive an explanation for the injuries the child allegedly suffered from the sexual assault.
[...]
Therese Tobin, chief trial attorney for the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office in court said her office is still waiting for additional documents including toxicology reports from the medical examiner to provide to the defense attorney before a preliminary exam can be held.
King waived her right to having the hearing within 14 days as required by law. The hearing will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 24, according to 42nd District Court Judge William H. Hackel III.
About 42 supporters of Lily — including Lauren Furneaux and her mother, Lynette Furneaux — appeared in court wearing white shirts that had the message “Justice For Lily” on the front and “Fight to Infinity and Beyond” on the back. They declined to comment.http://www.voicenews.com/articles/2010/12/07//news/doc4cfe47f1a9907691017612.txt?viewmode=fullstory

Local family fights for justice in the death of two year old
A local family is fighting for justice as a two year old girl is dead and her step-mother is accused of killing her.
Two year old Lily Furneaux died a month ago today, and her family says wants to keep this from happening to anyone else.
"It is hard to talk about, but it's good to talk about the good memories," says Lauren Furneaux, Lily's biological mother.
That's the goal of get-togethers and fundraisers for two year old Lily Furneaux.
Her relatives are raising money to help fund child abuse prevention services.
Lauren says, "It's keeping me busy. It's keeping my mind off of things and I want something positive to come out of this."
[....]
"We're hoping to help out other families that are going through the same problems we've had to go through," says Michael Furneaux, Lily's uncle.
Their t-shirts say, "Fight to infinity and beyond." It's a reference to the movie Toy Story that Lily enjoyed watching.
"We want every bit of justice Lily can get, and we will get justice for Lily," says Michael.
At Greg's Pizza Company and Lounge in Metamora, two dollars of every pizza sold Monday night goes to the effort.
T-shirts and wristbands are also up for sale.
The family has other fundraisers planned this spring and summer.
The step-mother's next court date is January 24, 2011.
The family has also set up a website and Facebook page honoring Lily.http://www.upnorthlive.com/news/story.aspx?id=557298

A $1 million bond was set today for a New Haven woman charged in the death of her 2-year-old stepdaughter.
New Baltimore District Court officials said Renee Marie King, 28, was being held without bond on charges stemming from the Nov. 20 death of Lily Lynette Furneax-Wolfenbarger.
The bond was amended this morning during what would have been King's preliminary examination on charges of felony murder, first-degree child abuse and first-degree criminal sexual conduct. The hearing was rescheduled for Feb. 7.

Glanda previously said his client is "remorseful" and "emotional" about the incident, adding she denies the allegations.
Glanda said King has a "pre-existing medical condition where she tends to fall." The death, she claims, stemmed from an unintentional slip in the shower, he said.
King faces life in prison if convicted.

Remorseful is a bad word to use to describe an innocent person, doncha think?
I've been re-reading this thread and all I can think is, did this woman really do this? She seems so adamant in her innocence. And, a woman sexually abusing a child like this just seems so un-natural, so bizarre...I don't know. I mean, it's un-natural and bizarre that anyone would abuse a child but a woman...a mother? Is she mentally ill?
I'm so sorry for what happened to Lily and I really hope they have the right person in custody!

I just read through this thread. Are we the only ones that realize how evil this world is when it comes to innocent children being abused in one way or another? I just don't understand why. Why and how any person can do something like this to a child. It is so common that it scares me. It feels like hell to know that while I sit here, another child is being abused....and not a fucking thing any of us can do to stop it. If we had ESP, or something, maybe. Instead, we come on here and read and then (and I know we've all done it) think, "Jesus Christ, another one". We know it is going on. We know there will be another new story and the only think we can do is protect our own babies and maybe the children we have contact with. Is evil far more prevalent than a good hearted person these days?
It isn't that I am not a strong person, or that I am emotionally unstable. It is, in fact, that each time I read one of these and think, "not another one" I also think how many are there out there that are being abused and we don't know. I think, there will be a half dozen or more stories tomorrow. And just think, these are just the ones that are being reported. :(
It makes you think about the kids down the street.... are they safe. Or the children you see at the schools. It just makes you question everyone and everything..... all of the time. It makes you wonder how many cases of child murder (abuse) was overlooked in years past. How many children did not get justice.
It is just a sad sad reality. And yet, even child abuse awareness will not prevent it or stop it. :(

Dneilz, I do not believe that we are the only ones who recognize this problem, but I like to think we are one of the many groups who are "vocal/opinionated" about what we see! I see a lot of people, in different forums, who do speak out, we just haven't crossed paths and united into one large group!

You really need to get out more. This site is just one of many on the internet and D'D is just a true crime horror site not a child abuse site. The child abuse sites would truly break your heart. If you run some of the foreign news sites through a translator, you would be further incensed.
It's not just "us". It only seems that way because this the place/topic you choose to focus. If you take any of the articles you see to a random person on the street, I'm sure you will find we are not the only ones.
There are millions of groups, agencies, and individuals the world over that feel the same... and actually try to do something about the situation. Some quietly, some loudly, some in small ways, some large, but that is the way it works.

Mount Clemens— Two 4-year-olds killed by their grandmothers — one drowned in a bathtub, another strangled.
A 3-year-old boy stabbed to death in a brutal attack by his mother's fiance.

A 2-year-old girl sexually assaulted and murdered by her stepmother.
Authorities allege the disturbing scenarios are reality in Macomb County and among at least 10 abusive crimes involving children ages 6 and younger in less than two years.
Smith says it's a "mini-epidemic" in Macomb that he's aiming to fight. Smith's office recently launched an effort to make child abuse prevention a priority. The prosecutor said staffers are working to assemble a team of experts to research initiatives that'll help catch cases of abuse early, before they escalate.
"We want to do everything possible to stem the tide of these child deaths and horrific child abuse cases," Smith said. "When it's that prevalent, you have no choice but to confront it."
The state Department of Human Services is commending Smith's effort.
Since mid-2009, Macomb County has prosecuted at least 10 people in horrific crimes involving young children. More than half of the victims died. Among the cases: Dawn Yorke, 53, is charged with first-degree murder in the June 11, 2009, strangling death of her 4-year-old granddaughter, Linda Marie Steele, at the family's former home in Warren.
Terry Borgia, 61, is accused of drowning her 4-year-old grandson, Deangelo Tobia, at her Clinton Township apartment Jan. 11, 2010. Borgia is charged with first-degree murder.
Todd Pink, 38, is charged with 15 felonies including two counts of first-degree murder in connection with a May 15, 2010, attack in Clinton Township that left his fiancee, Carrie Seils, and her 3-year-old son, Skyler, dead. Seils' daughter and a family friend were injured. Majd Al-Shara of Lenox Township tossed an accelerant into a fire pit on Sept. 19, 2010, causing an explosion that killed his 6-year-old daughter, Aliaa Al-Shara. The 41-year-old pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor child abuse charge and got probation.
Delniece Williams, 20, is accused of slamming her 8-month-old son George Wilburn Jr. on the floor at her boyfriend's Warren home Oct. 11, 2010, causing injuries that killed the boy. She's charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse.
Renee King, 28, is charged with felony murder, child abuse and criminal sexual conduct in the Nov. 20, 2010, death of her 2-year-old stepdaughter, Lily Lynette Furneax-Wolfenbarger. Others are charged with sexually assaulting, burning and beating toddlers. In another headline-grabbing case, Carol Schnuphase allegedly duped her community and relatives, including her son, now 13, into believing the boy had cancer to get donations. She allegedly fed him opiates to make him look and feel ill.
John Ange, the Macomb County assistant prosecutor who is chief of the juvenile division, said the cases of abuse over the last year are among the worst he's seen in Macomb since he joined the office five years ago.
"Every time you turn around, the level of abuse and abuse resulting in death seems to be a consistent theme," he said. "It's human behavior at its worst."
Environment a factor
Sheri Pickover, an assistant professor in the Department of Counseling and Addiction Studies at University of Detroit-Mercy, said national research has found that environmental factors — including poverty and stress — put children at higher risk for abuse. A lack of child development knowledge among caregivers also contributes.
"When the economy is better, stressors go down," said Pickover, a former foster care worker and supervisor who handled cases in Wayne, Oakland, Genesee, Livingston and Macomb. "When it gets worse, referrals go up."
State-level initiatives to reduce child abuse and abuse-related deaths have been in place for decades.
The governor's Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect was established in 1991 to review and make recommendations about Michigan's investigative, administrative and judicial handling of such cases.
By 2000, child death review teams were organized in each Michigan county to evaluate the circumstances of child deaths and how they can be minimized or prevented. There also are 19 accredited children's advocacy centers statewide.
In fiscal 2009, there were 117,316 child abuse and neglect complaint reports received. Of those, 71,780 were investigated and 26 percent were confirmed, according to the state Children's Protective Services program.

Lily's Eulogy from Mommy
Thought I would share the eulogy that I read at my baby girl's funeral. I want people to have a little bit of a glimse into the person that was/is my world. My precious Little Lil. I have always said how you are my angel and that will never change. Y...ou are just watching over us now. I wish I could get one more biggest kiss ever. I wish we could fight over which cheek is who’s (Do Do’s or Mommy’s). Fighting with papa that you are Mama’s girl. Watching Glee over and over again. Or watching Toys Berry and talking about how mommy cries every time. We shared a love of music. I couldn’t sing but you thought I could. I loved dancing to “you’ll be in my heart” and all of Do Do’s songs on his CD. Or just sitting back and watching you dance to Low, Single Ladies, or Party in the USA. Listening to you sing any glee song, Paparazzi, Barney, Kokomo or Billionaire. You would always laugh when they would say “I like your beard.” Or yell at people during “Lake a Prayer” telling them to do praying hands. You were the one person everyone listened to. You were already a Chippewa. “Fire up Chips!” Every day was perfect. You made my life perfect. One of my favorites was the beach. I got to take my baby girl to the ocean. You didn’t want to leave. We played for hours and it was so peaceful. I know that is what heaven is like. I know you are there waiting for me. You had so much faith in God. I remember last Christmas, the Mann’s family had to stop you while running down the isle saying “Happy Birthday Jesus.” Now you get to spend his birthday with him this year. I am so proud of you for everything you did. Your love for your family was amazing. I am trying to take care of all your friends and cousins by telling them you are with them. But I need you to hold their hand. To help them understand that you are in a better place joyfully awaiting the day we are all together again. you had so much compassion and love for life and everyone knew that. I wish we would have had more time. But you need to know that you made this the best 2 years 6 months and 6 days of my life. I am sure you are up there stealing Papa’s cake. I am so sorry that I could not protect you. I told you I would never let anything happen to you. I should have been there to save you. But know I will always fight for you. So one last time I will sing our song. “Lily close your eyes mothers right here beside, I’ll protect you from harm, you will wake in my arms. Precious angels are near. Lily have no fear. Precious angels are near. Little child I am here.” I just wanted to say if you have children hold them tight. Don’t let them go. Cherish every moment. Always tell them you love them. Lily you are still my world. I love you more than anything, you are my everything! So until I can be with you, I will always love you to infinity and beyond!

New Baltimore— A paramedic broke down in tears Wednesday as she recalled an afternoon last year when she entered a New Haven home and found an unclothed and unconscious 2-year-old girl lying in the middle of the living room floor.
"She was unresponsive, not breathing and she didn't have a pulse," Richmond-Lenox EMS paramedic Katie Eisen said. "I started CPR on her right away."
Eisen tearfully testified about the chaotic scene during the preliminary examination Wednesday of Renee Marie King in New Baltimore District Court. The 29-year-old is charged with felony murder, first-degree child abuse and first-degree criminal sexual conduct on allegations she sexually assaulted and killed her stepdaughter, Lily Lynette Furneaux-Wolfenbarger. The hearing will resume Thursday.
Prosecutors say King and Lily were alone together Nov. 20 at the home in the Meadow Creek Mobile Home Community that King shared with Lily's father, Jeff Wolfenbarger.
Emergency crews responded to the home when King called 911 shortly after 2 p.m.
Eisen said while working on the child King told her that she wasn't sure what happened.
"She said she was in the shower and came out and found her," Eisen said.
After the comment, King's attorney, Michael Dennis, pointed out that his client made several inconsistent comments to Eisen that day about what happened. She also told the paramedic that she had attempted to resuscitate Lily, he said.
Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz concluded Lily died of blunt-force trauma to the head and ruled her death a homicide.
There was also evidence of a sexual assault, he said.
Lily's mother, Lauren Furneaux, testified Wednesday that she and Wolfenbarger shared custody of the child. Wolfenbarger cared for Lily weekly from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Thursday and every third weekend.
Furneaux said her daughter was in good health when they left her home in Lapeer at 8:30 a.m. that day to meet Wolfenbarger at a gas station to exchange Lily for the weekend. The 24-year-old said she took her daughter out of the car seat, handed her to Wolfenbarger and it was the last time she saw her alive.
Furneaux said that Lily "didn't want to go" and was often troubled when she returned from visits at his home.
"She was very upset when she came back and very clingy," Furneaux said, adding she had on occasion noticed cuts, bumps and bruises on her daughter.
Furneaux confirmed for Dennis she and Wolfenbarger were previously involved in court proceedings over custody, but she'd never alleged abuse or contacted Child Protective Services.

A judge endorsed felony murder and child abuse charges against a New Haven woman in her 2-year-old stepdaughter’s death but dismissed a sexual assault charge despite a severe wound to the child’s genital area.
Renee King, 28, this afternoon was ordered by Judge William Hackel III of 42-II District Court in New Baltimore to appear May 16 in Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens, following a two-day preliminary examination.
King is accused in the Nov. 20 death of Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger, who died from at least three blunt-force trauma blows to the head.
“It’s wonderful we got through another step in the process but to not get all three charges hurts,” said Lynette Furneaux of Lapeer, Lily’s grandmother. “All three things were done to her.”
The judge said evidence showed that Lily’s head injuries “were inconsistent with … someone falling,” enough to warrant the felony murder and child abuse charges. But testimony failed to show probable cause that a severe laceration to Lily’s vaginal area could have been done by “this defendant.”
On Wednesday, county Medical Examiner Dr. Daniel Spitz testified that Lily suffered a wound so deep that it punctured a wall between the anus and vagina.
But New Haven Police Officer Derek Reed, who was the first person on the scene, testified Thursday he did not notice any wound to Lily’s groin area when he arrived and saw King “kneeling” over Lily’s nude body.
King’s attorney, Michael Dennis, argued that prosecutors failed to connect his client to the vaginal injury.
“There has to be some evidence linking my client,” he said. “They’re trying to throw a bunch of mud on the wall and home something sticks.”
After the hearing, he suggested Lily could have suffered the injury in the ambulance or Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center, where she was taken.

I don't get why the sexual chargesw were dropped. If she'd bash the kid's head in, raping the baby with an object couldn't be that farfetched.
She wasn't crying b/c of remorse. She was crying b/c she's feeling sorry for herself and she wants to go home and be with her husband and kids. Well, boo fucking hoo. It ain't gonna happen.
This is one of those cases where I really really hope there's some prison justice from women who had to leave their kids behind when they came to prison, with fathers and stepmothers and girlfriends or whatever. Her life won't be worth shit.

Macomb County Circuit Judge Diane Druzinski made the ruling today during a hearing for Renee Marie King. The 29-year-old New Haven woman is facing life in prison on charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse in the Nov. 20, 2010, death of Lily Lynette Furneaux-Wolfenbarger.
"We are happy that the charges are brought back upon Renee and all we want is justice for Lily in all aspects," Lily's grandmother, Lynette Furneaux, said today.
Judge William Hackel III of the 42nd District Court in New Baltimore had dismissed the sexual abuse count in April following a two-day preliminary examination.

The defense contends that King and Lily were in the shower together and that the injuries stemmed from an accidental fall.
King is due back in court for a pretrial conference on Sept. 12.

Furneaux said that Lily "didn't want to go" and was often troubled when she returned from visits at his home.
"She was very upset when she came back and very clingy," Furneaux said, adding she had on occasion noticed cuts, bumps and bruises on her daughter.
Cannot express it enough. Baby girl needed someone to stand up for her, Lilly couldn't express in words what was wrong that is why those most close to her needed to make sure she didn't have to be back around that loathsome bitch. She had bruises from every fucking visit, her behavior spoke volumes. Too late now, all too damn late. So sorry baby Lilly.

Trial begins in 2-year-old's killing
An assistant Macomb County prosecutor told jurors Wednesday that a New Haven woman accused of sexually assaulting and killing her 2-year-old stepdaughter in November 2010 did it knowingly and intentionally.
During opening statements in the trial of Renee King, 29, assistant prosecutor Therese Tobin said the injuries -- 20 points of impact and a direct brain injury -- showed King's intent when she injured Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger, causing her death.
The incident happened at the trailer King shared with Lily's father, Jeffrey Wolfenbarger, who is divorcing her. Tobin noted that King, who has three other children, was alone with Lily and was the only person who had access to Lily when she suffered her injuries.
Prosecutors contend that King used an object to rape the girl and killed her with blows to the head. The defense argues that the injuries were caused when King fell while holding Lily, once in the shower after the girl vomited and once while King was trying to revive the girl.
Defense attorney Jason Malkiewicz said New Haven police officers were intent on doing everything possible to prove King's guilt without researching her side of the story.

Mount Clemens— The last time Lauren Furneaux saw her 2-year-old daughter, the tearful toddler was being handed off to her father in the parking lot of a gas station.
Hours later, Lily Lynette Furneaux-Wolfenbarger was dead, and her stepmother, Renee Marie King, is on trial for felony murder, charged with fatally beating the girl.
During testimony Thursday in Macomb County Circuit Court before Judge Diane M. Druzinski, Furneaux recounted her last moments with her daughter Nov. 20, 2010, and how she noticed injuries to the girl earlier that month.
Days before the custody exchange, Furneaux said she had taken photographs of bruising on the toddler's back and scrapes on her head.
She said the injuries occurred while the child was being cared for at the New Haven trailer home her father, Jeffrey Wolfenbarger, shared with King.
Furneaux and Wolfenbarger had endured three custody trials since Lily's birth in 2008.
Prosecutors allege King struck Lily's head more than 20 times and sexually assaulted her. The defense says King has a medical condition that makes her leg give out, and Lily's death stemmed from two falls.
King's cousin, Michael Stead, testified Thursday he lived with King, her husband and three children in spring 2009. Stead said he often helped care for the kids, including Lily, when she visited.
He testified that King slapped Lily in the face once while they were traveling in the car because she was crying and that the impact made the child's nose bleed.
Stead said the incident was isolated and he didn't report it until after Lily's death. He said his cousin was "a little bit harder on Lily than she was on her own."
Earlier Thursday, King's attorney, Jason Malkiewicz, played a recording of a phone call between Furneaux and King two days before Lily died. Furneaux later turned the recording over to New Haven Police.

She was the wicked step-mother when you weren't around. In fact, I'd say you were lucky you were no longer there when she killed Lily, or you'd be getting the blame.
This case makes me hurt. I bet Lauren Furneaux hurts every time she thinks about the harm her daughter endured, the last time she saw her begging to stay with her mom, and knowing she could not be there to protect her.

Toddler's mother 'ecstatic' at guilty verdict in killing
Mount Clemens— Lauren Furneaux's last memory of her 2-year-old daughter is filled with screams and tears as the child was carried away in a gas station parking lot for a court-ordered visit with her father.
Hours later, prosecutors say, the girl's stepmother fatally beat and sexually assaulted the toddler over temper tantrums and toilet training accidents.
On Monday, a Macomb County Circuit Court jury deliberated about two hours before convicting Renee Marie King of felony murder and one count each of first-degree child abuse and criminal sexual conduct in the Nov. 20, 2010, death of Lily Lynette Furneaux-Wolfenbarger.
King, 30, will be sentenced to mandatory life in prison without parole April 10.
For Furneaux, the verdict was bittersweet.
"We're ecstatic," she said. "Still, it doesn't bring Lily back."
Furneaux and Lily's father, Jeff Wolfenbarger, shared custody. The two had endured three trials over parenting time since Lily's birth in 2008.
Furneaux and her family say they suspected Lily was being abused under King's care and documented the bruises and black eyes in an attempt to gain full custody.
"It was still not enough," she said. "I just want to hold her again. You are supposed to protect your daughters from the evil in the world and I couldn't protect her."
Prosecutors say King inflicted at least 20 blows to Lily's head and sexually assaulted her while the two were alone together in the trailer home King shared with Wolfenbarger. She'd been caring for the child while Wolfenbarger was away at work.
King's attorney Jason Malkiewicz contends King had a pre-existing medical condition and that Lily's injuries stemmed from two accidental falls.
[...]
"They all believe, as do I, that Renee didn't do this. They are crushed," he said, adding King maintains her innocence. "This was nothing more than a horrible accident."
King told investigators she took Lily with her in the shower after the child became ill. King said she lost her grip on Lily as she attempted to lift the girl up to rinse her hair and the child fell. King claimed she later fell on top of the child after exiting the shower.
During the two-week trial, Assistant Prosecutor Therese Tobin presented various accounts from King about how the child became injured and efforts made to revive the child.
Malkiewicz argued authorities never made an attempt to verify King's story, which he claims has "always been consistent."
Malkiewicz also detailed King's medical visits for episodes of falling in the weeks and days prior to Lily's death.
Tobin noted a doctor ordered further tests, but King never followed through. Instead, Tobin claimed, she was taking a level of pain medication that was "closing in on the level of toxic."
Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said Lily's was one of six child death cases in the county in 2010.
Smith commended Furneaux for creating a foundation in her daughter's name. So far, she's raised about $35,000 for child advocacy groups and abuse prevention and her "Justice for Lily" Facebook page has a following of about 34,000.
"I'm proud of Lauren and all that she's done for child abuse prevention," he said. "She's not only kept the memory of Lily alive, but found a way to help other children."http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120227/METRO03/202270413/1014/metro03/New-Haven-stepmom-guilty-toddler-s-death

Wrongful death suit filed against father of dead 2-year-old
The man whose 2-year-old daughter died at the hands of his wife in a brutal beating and sexual assault in New Haven is being accused in a lawsuit of culpability in the girl’s death.
Jeffrey Wolfenbarger and Renee King, who faces life in prison in the death of Lily Furneaux-Wolfenbarger, were sued today in Macomb County Circuit Court by Lily’s mother, Lauren Furneaux. Lily died Nov. 20, 2010 following the attack at Wolfenbarger and King’s trailer in New Haven.
Henry Baskin, the Birmingham attorney representing Lauren Furneaux, said he wants to send a message with the lawsuit, which also lists John Doe and Mary Roe as yet-to-be-determined defendants.
“This was a case of continual abuse,” Baskin said. “This child didn’t live in a vacuum. People saw her. People knew.”
Wolfenbarger could not be reached for comment today.
The wrongful death suit officially seeks damages in excess of $25,000. Baskin, however, said it is not about money but putting “the responsibility where it is.”
A jury found King, 30, guilty last month of murder, criminal sexual conduct and child abuse. King, who claimed Lily was hurt when King fell with her twice, is to be sentenced April 10. Prosecutors said Lily's head injuries were similar to what someone might suffer in a car crash and that King wanted to punish the girl for soiling her pants.
The suit claims that Wolfenbarger abandoned his legal duty as a parent by leaving the child in King’s care despite knowing that she used narcotics and had violent tendencies. It also accuses Wolfenbarger of getting narcotics from his wife, whom he is in the process of divorcing.
Wolfenbarger, who was arrested during a break in King’s trial after authorities said he knocked a woman down trying to attack someone else, was the subject of a personal protection request filed by King in October 2010. The document, included with the lawsuit, says King feared for her life after Wolfenbarger punched her in the back.
The suit also includes pictures showing Lily before her death with black eyes. The suit says she suffered bruising and burns as well, which Wolfenbarger had explained as “the product of Lily’s clumsy and rambunctious behavior.”

King wipes away tears during her sentencing
On the day Renee King was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2010 sexual assault and murder of her stepdaughter, the 2-year-old girl’s mother finally got to confront her.
Reading from a prepared statement today in Macomb County Circuit Court, Lauren Furneaux told King, who was shackled and wore a blue jail jumper, of the pain she had caused and said she was glad that King would miss the milestones in the lives of King’s three children that Furneaux would miss because of Lily Fureneaux-Wolfenbarger’s death.
“My daughter was my world … she had a smile that would light up the world,” said Furneaux of Lapeer. “God bless you because I don’t think that they will very much where you’re going.”
[...]
Judge Diane Druzinki’s courtroom was packed for King’s sentencing on murder, criminal sexual conduct and child abuse charges with people – some who held framed pictures of Lily walking in the water or standing beside a Christmas tree -- wearing “Justice for Lily” T-shirts. King’s attorney, Jason Malkiewicz, indicated to Druzinski that King plans to appeal. King, 29, did not speak, although Malkiewicz said she maintains her innocence.
[...]
Lily’s father, Jeffrey Wolfenbarger, who faces an assault charge for an altercation outside the courtroom during a break in King’s trial in February, also spoke during the sentencing. He said Lily was his best friend.
“My heart aches every day, every second, every minute,” he said. “I ask God every day, ‘why, why, why my little girl?’”

Yay!!! LWOP! Rot in your cell, you filthy piece of infested s**t! I disagree with Furneaux, who is happy you will miss your own children's milestone just as she will miss Lily's, because you at least have the knowledge of your children growing up to make those milestones. What you did to Lily is inexcusable and imaginable only to a monster.

Huh! Your best friend? You'd have helped your best friend, protected her from abuse. The lie is obvious.

I read an article in our small paper that had more of what the mother said to Renee and it was snarky as Hell. It was more quoted then generalized as written in the article above. I will see if I can find it online.
Oh and moments before the sentencing the father's divorce went through.

Found it. I'm not posting the entire article but you can read it at the link. Here are some of the highlights of the article. Too me it doesn't sound she was happy that King would miss her children's milestones but more like pointing it out to her.
Lauren Furneaux on Tuesday finally got her first and only chance to confront Renee King, the murdering stepmother of Furneaux’s young daughter 1-1/2 years ago.
“As I will never see Lily’s first day of school, first date, first prom, her graduate, her wedding, her children, neither will you,” Furneaux told King in a restrained voice, reading from sheet of paper. “I get to have more children someday. And I get to hide Easter eggs, I get to get my daughter married, dressed for her wedding, my son for his wedding. I get to do all those things and you don’t.
“You decided to take my world from me that day. So when you sit in front of a camera after Lily was killed asking if you could go to the funeral and crying because jail was too hard? Just wait, Renee, you have a whole lifetime of prison. Have fun. ... Life in prison is too easy for you. You took my daughter’s life and now the justice system gets to take yours.”
Jeffrey Wolfenbarger, King’s ex-husband, whose divorce was OK’d by Judge Mary Chrzanowski only about one hour before the sentencing in another courtroom, castigated King at her sentencing. You have destroyed so many lives,” Wolfenbarger told his ex-wife. “Your selfish actions on Nov. 20, 2010, are unthinkable, disturbing, to say the least, sick.
“You can ask God for forgiveness, but as Lily’s father, never.”
