A mother is being charged in the death of her own eight month old baby.

Thirty one year old Natalie Thorton of Carencro was arrested for second degree murder for the death of her eight month old daughter.

Details surrounding the case are still unclear police officials tell us at this point the only information collected is based on the story Thorton gave officers early Monday morning.

Thorton tells Police she left her daughter in the car while she went inside her residence. She says the eight month old was inside unattended for approximately five hours with the heater turned on.

Thorton says when she finally went to check on the infant the baby was non-responsive.

Thorton got into her vehicle and frantically sought help. She saw a Lafayette police officer at a convenient store and the officer called Acadian Ambulance. Unfortunately the child did die.

Police are now waiting on a report from the coroner's office to determine the time and cause of death. Police officials tell us collecting physical evidence takes time and the coroner's report will shape the focus of the on-going investigation.

We briefly spoke with some family members of little girl this afternoon and the grieving relatives are taking the death hard.

The infant's father is returning to Lafayette from his offshore job.

Obviously, the car was turned on. I'm surprised someone didn't steal it, with the baby inside. Maybe then the poor thing would be alive.

My guess would be screwing herself with something battery operated while smoking pot and popping pills.

Wow, this happened on mother's day. I guess if you can completely forget about your child on mother's day, leaving her in the car for 5 hours isn't too surprising.

My daughter is also 8 months old... I won't even allow my husband to leave her in the car to go inside gas station to pay (I make him pay at the pump if she is with him and I am not).

This HAD to be intentional, there is no other explaination for it. NONE. The hell that poor baby went through, lets stick a needle in her arm and call it a day. That fucking cumdumpster needs to just die and save everyone the trouble.

I don't even leave my 10 year old in the car! I would never think of leaving a young child in the car. Shit, just this afternoon I hauled a floppy, snoozing 3 year old into the cheap chinese restaraunt to get takeout for dinner. I'm glad my other kids were with me to carry the bags or the food might not have still been in the boxes when I got home.

Who the fuck forgets to shut their car off when they get home?? The more I think about this the madder and more suspicious I am of this mother. It's mother's day and you forget you have a kid for 5 hours. This happens on the very day you also arrive home and get out of your car and forget to turn your car off?!?!? I don't fucking think so!

Okay, I am getting even madder about shit like this and parents who do this shit. I cannot even carry my baby and her car seat at the same time because of how bad my Fibromyalgia is. However I do not leave her in a fucking car. I make sure I have help with people to carry her, or I put her in a damn stroller or whatever. God these fucking people are ignorant. This fucking woman needs to just get the needle, I swear.

I need billboards damn it.

Damn it.

I believe her sole intention was to get rid of the baby permanently and the weather was not hot enough in her book to achieve that.
