HILLSBORO -- A 28-year-old Hillsboro man was sentenced Tuesday to nearly six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to drugging two teenage girls and sexually assaulting one of them.
Brandon Michael Sullivan, who also must register as a sex offender for life, sobbed that his life was over and he'd never be able to get a job or "even join the Army."
"I'm going to be running away and hiding the rest of my life," he told Washington County Circuit Judge Thomas W. Kohl, begging for mercy.
Without comment, Kohl went along with the plea agreement and sentenced Sullivan to five years and nine months in prison, with no programs to reduce his sentence other than time off for good behavior.
That didn't satisfy the 14-year-old girl he assaulted or her mother. Speaking through Senior Deputy District Attorney Megan Johnson, the victim and her family said Sullivan should spend more time in prison, especially since someone they knew was sentenced to "104 months for stealing car stereos."
"They are frustrated that the defendant exploited a friendship and position of trust," Johnson said.
Sullivan was arrested in December and charged with 26 sex, identity theft and drug crimes. The charges stemmed from a Dec. 3 incident at his apartment involving the 14-year-old girl and her 15-year-old friend.
Police said Sullivan invited the girls over to watch a movie, then spiked the girls' sodas with MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy. He left the older girl asleep in front of the TV and sexually assaulted the younger girl after grabbing her by the neck, throwing her onto his bed and holding his hand over her mouth, Johnson said.
