Couldn't find this anywhere on the site so I added it.
FLINT, Michigan — A shooting that took the life of a 6-year-old boy stemmed from a dispute over $60, said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.
Jonaries Holden was riding in the backseat of a car with two other children about 10 p.m. Monday when a man walked up to his parents' car and fired a single shot inside the car, said Leyton.
The shot hit the little boy in the back, said Leyton. The boy's mother and father were in the front seat.

Police Chief Alvern Lock said during a press conference on the slaying of six-year-old Jonaries Holden that two other children who were in the car hit by a single bullet Monday night were unharmed.
Jonaries' twin brother and another two-year-old child were in the backseat, Lock said.
The suspect Davontrae Benton is considered armed and dangerous. Benton was said to have an altercation with Holden's father over a $60 debt. Holden's death marks the 55th homicide in Flint this year.
In the front seats were the victim's father and a woman, the mother of the two-year-old, who made the call to 911.

FLINT, Mich. - Police have issued a warrant for a suspect in the shooting death of a 6-year-old Flint boy.
Police say Jonaries Holden died after being struck by at least one bullet fired at a car driven by his father about 10:15 p.m. Monday. Investigators say the shooting took place following an argument over money.
The alleged shooter, DaVontrae Burton, shot Holden with a handgun Monday night. The boy later died at Hurley Medical Center.

I just had to add this quote from the grandma. It is heartbreaking to say the least.
FLINT, Michigan— The Holden family has been touched by violence before.
As family members grieve the death of 6-year-old Jonaries Holden, it brings back memories of another loss: In 2005, Jonaries’ cousin 14-year-old DeQuandra Holden was stabbed to death by another teenage girl.
She was murdered during a fight involving a large number of girls at a party.
“I just can’t get my grandkids to be teenagers,” grandmother Sylvia Holden said. “This has to stop.”

FLINT, Michigan — Marchand Williams spent Tuesday afternoon flipping through photos of 6-year-old son Jonaries Holden, as emotional family and friends poured into her home sharing stories of the little boy who was shot and killed Monday while asleep in the back of his father’s car.
The bright-eyed, affectionate “mama’s boy” who loved hugs and kisses and blushed when pretty girls said hello had woken his mom up from a nap Monday to tell her he wanted to call his father.
"He said he wanted to go see his daddy," she said through tears.
Just 45 minutes later, the twins’ father called Williams, so hysterical she didn’t know what he was saying.
“I thought violence would affect people doing the violence, not my innocent baby,” Williams said.

Chief Alvern Lock said during a press conference at police headquarters that Jonaries Holden's father identified a suspect as an acquaintance, and that the public should look out for a 2003 maroon Impala with the license plate number 9JXR28.

I am just heartbroken over this story. Can you imagine the fear they must have felt? His poor twin brother watching his other half die right in front of him. Children should be safe while driving down the road. This is my home town and although I have moved out I still go back multiple times a week and sometimes I have to bring my kids. It is a shame the thugs have taken over and all the good people have to live in fear!!

Just watched the local news.. They haven't posted the video on their web site but it made me cry again. They ask the twin brother "if you could go back and say anything to your brother what would it be" he looks up and says "to duck." That poor baby and their family!!

[...]What a sweet looking child. Here (http://media.mlive.com/flint-journal/photo/-df54b84e9e51be04.JPG), a more recent photo of Jonaries with twin brother Quinares and mom. Jonaries was the smiley one.
Blows my mind how a child can't even be safe in a car while asleep. SO much danger out there but who would have thought this might happen.
Littlest Jonaries was just starting life, his life taken while so young we can only imagine what he might have become. You will be missed dearly littlest one...in heaven's light always....angel kisses.

judge on Thursday said there was probable cause to send a 25-year old man to trial in the shooting death of a 6-year old boy.
Davontrae J. Benton was bound over to circuit court and is accused of shooting 6-year-old Jonaries Holden on Flint Park Boulevard near King Avenue in Flint in November.
Jonaries’ father, Johnny Holden, and a woman in the car testified that Benton approached the car Nov. 1 to ask about a $60 debt that Benton was owed. Holden claimed Benton fired a shot that hit his son.
Benton then came up to Holden after the shooting.
“He caught up with me and asked if my kids were all right,” Holden said. “He looked terrified, like he did something wrong.”
Holden and his then-girlfriend, Sharonda Newton who was in the passenger seat, said they did not see the gun shot. Benton’s attorney, Ken Scott, disagreed with the decision to bind over. Scott said if the two cars were set up the way Holden described in testimony, then Benton could not have been the shooter.
A circuit court arraignment is set for March 7.
Benton is being held without bond in the Genesee County Jail.

DaVontrae J. Benton, the man accused of firing a bullet into a car and killing 6-year-old Jonaries Holden in 2010 pleaded no contest to manslaughter today, according to court records.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Holden faces five to 15 years in prison. BULLSHIT
He's scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 21.
Prosecutors agreed to drop four counts of assault with intent to murder and a felony firearm charge in exchange for the plea.
"It was a negotiated plea as a result of conflicts with statements and ballistics reports that did not coincide with either of the witness statements," said Leyton.
"We felt we were going to have a difficult time proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt. It was a difficult decision, but one we felt we had to make."

Just my opinion but it is a damn shame when you can take the life of a six year old child and only get 15 years max! Makes me fucking sick. What about the childs life who was cut short. He never got another chance why should his killer?

5 - 15 is BS, but what is this all about?
"It was a negotiated plea as a result of conflicts with statements and ballistics reports that did not coincide with either of the witness statements," said Leyton.

I hate to talk shit on these people because in the end they are victims but in my opinion the dad and the shooter have something to hide. I am betting it wasn't over money more like a drug deal gone bad. That's why their stories are not matching the ballistics. It's rough out here and many people in that area have turned to selling and using drugs.

Jury finds Michigan man guilty of murder in death of boy, 6
Flint man found guilty of 2nd-degree murder in shooting death of 6-year-old boy in 2010
FLINT, Mich. -
A 26-year-old Flint man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2010 shooting death of a 6-year-old boy.
DaVontrae Benton was convicted Friday of killing Jonaries Holden after authorities say he fired a shot into a car during an argument with the boy's father over $60. A jury also found Benton guilty of four counts of assault with intent to murder and felony firearm in the Nov. 1, 2010, shooting.
Benton reached a deal in January to plead no contest to manslaughter, but defense attorney Kenneth Scott opted for a jury trial. Mlive.com reports Jonaries' mother told the judge she would prefer a trial and the judge's sentence would have been more than twice what state guidelines called for.
