GREENFIELD--A woman and her aunt have been cited for allowing a two-year-old to light up in the middle of a Greenfioeld restaurant.

Greenfield Police reports show the family was dinning at Ponderosa Steakhouse last week when witnesses saw Kimberly Novak, 39, put her lit cigarette into the toddler's mouth. Witnesses also saw Novak light a fresh cigarette for the child, who later started coughing.

Novak and the child's mother were arrested for felony child abuse. Greenfield police say they arrested the mother, Corrina Kuhnke, 26, for not putting a stop to the incident. Both women admitted laughing about the site of the smoking toddler. Kuhnke said it had been a joke in the past.

Milwaukee Assisstant District Attorney Chris Liegel decided not to process the case because there is no proof the child was injured or harmed. Both women have been cited for providing tobacco to a minor.

The boy's mother said the child did this all the time, adding: "He can even light his own cigarettes." The mother then asked the boy for a cigarette, which he pulled out of a pack and handed to his mother.

When the mother said "light, light" the child grabbed a lighter and handed it to his mother.

The aunt said she was concerned about the boy's welfare because the child can say and do other inappropriate things, and believes he may have picked up on the drug activity his mother displays.

The aunt said the mother keeps a rolled up dollar bill in the bedroom, which the child plays with.

Any time the boy has the dollar bill he hold it up to his nose and says, "fix, fix" over and over again.
