When police knocked on the door to execute a search warrant, Sczerkowsky and two other men fled to the balcony, clambered to an adjacent balcony, and began climbing down the building.
After Sczerkowsky fell, police called off the apartment search as officers provided first-aid to the victim and called for an ambulance.
The two men managed to escape to a third-floor balcony and were last seen running out of the building from a parkade exit.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating the death.
