Anyone else ever fascinated with it? I have always loved movies and literature that deals with it. I don't know why, specifically, but I think it has a lot to do with the primal nature of it and the fact that it does work, even if it is not for the reasons believers think it does.
Also, there's something about Southern Gothic that I like. The flawed characters, swamps, Spanish moss, all that stuff. Makes for a nice combination when the two, Southern Gothic staples and voodoo, are mixed together.

Yeah, I think that's a big part of it. It's kind of terror driven, and also part of crisis belief which is an element in all religion, IMO.
There's also a corny factor to it that I love. That combination of fright and corn. I think that's why I also like zombies.

Zombies are my favorite horror theme. That and then werewolves. But zombies in literature, movies, whatever...I never tire of them. Probably a lot to do with the uncanny valley, and my tendencies to be drawn to things that are morbid in nature I guess. That is three books I have read in the last year that delt with the zombie subject in different ways...Play Dead, World War Z and Monster Island (another end-of-the-world zombie tale.
