I saw this on the local news and was touched. This fast acting dog, Vandy (Boxer breed), saves 1 yo Dylan's life.
Not sure if Vandy has been adopted out yet, don't think she'll be hard to place.
A Pflugerville (http://weareaustin.com/fulltext/?nxd_id=92865) family says their toddler is alive today thanks to a boxer, named Vandy.
Darryl McArthur was grilling in the family’s backyard earlier this week while his 1-year-old son Dylan played with their dog Tuc, and the foster dog, Vandy.
McArthur says he turned just in time to see a rattlesnake in the yard – and his son, standing within a foot of it.
But before he could do anything, McArthur says he watched as Vandy stepped between Dylan and the snake, shielding his son from an attack. It was a close call, but it wasn’t until later that McArthur realized Vandy had been bitten.
“Within 15 minutes, I saw Vandy was acting really weird,” says McArthur. “Her eyes started swelling up, and then her jowl.”
The family rushed Vandy to the vet, where she received anti-venom within 45 minutes. It became the second time her life was spared. That’s because Vandy is a rescue from Dallas, who had been just days away from being euthanized.
Vandy’s only been with the McArthur’s for about two weeks.
“I think it's a tribute to her, that she stepped in and took a snake bite,” says McArthur. “Instead of my son getting it.”
The family hopes to still find Vandy a forever home but they say she’s certainly earned her keep for now.
For a toddler in Pflugerville, the turn of events could have been deadly. He was about to be bitten by a rattlesnake, when a dog intervened.
“She’s our little hero now,” said the boy’s father, Darryl McArthur.
The dog’s name is Vandy, and she is a six-year-old Boxer the McArthurs are currently fostering through Austin Boxer Rescue. She has been living with the family for nearly a month.

I thought the McArthurs might want to keep Vandy, maybe they hope it works out that way. For now tho they are trying to cover cost for the vet ($1400), as vet costs are crazy expensive.
