Dark Power

Dark Power is a film made exclusively for huge fans of the old spaghetti western star Lash La Rue. All eight of you. Where most horror flicks in the 80's were hell bent on outdoing one another in some outragious way, whether it be in gore or tit shots or ridiculious plot lines, Dark Power is a flick that decided to go minimalist. Well, I guess they did go overboard on being cornball, but I'm not sure that was their intention.
The story centers around four evil Toltec shamans (Toltecs really did used to exist, I looked it up) who buried themselves alive so that thousands of years later they could resurface and, uhhh, drink beer. Actually it's not really clear what their ultimate scheme was, it has something to do with "Dark Power", a phrase which is repeated about twelve seperate times just in case you forget what movie you're watching, but they do end up guzzling some brewskis, so there you have it. Leading up to the night of their resurrection the movie sleepwalks through the typical B-grade horror setup, college kids bickering, rampant racism, hillbilly wise cracks, and a bunch of other shit that doesn't end up having anything to do with the plot, which is annoying because they focus so much on this random stuff that you'd think it'll lead somewhere. Forget about that filler, the real big show is Lash La Rue, who plays Ranger Girard, a guy with operating native American knowledge who tracks down animals and uses his magical whip to subdue them. He wise cracks (get it, the whip, crack, pun) his way through the flick, gets hit on by some reporter, which is fucking weird because she's like an hundred years younger than him and making sexual innuendos about his whip, and ultimately ends up battling the evil zombie Toltecs in the longest whip versus whip showdown in modern movie history. It's really a lot less exciting than it sounds.
There is a total of one gore scene that is absolutely brutal and comes totally out of left field, one brief shot of some pancake titties, and a whole lot of cheesy cringe inducing acting and dialogue. I'd avoid it unless you have a real craving for movies about zombie warriors from the Toltec era, or some sort of weird whip fetish.
